B&W setting on Canon

I’m convinced that the older I get the dumber I am! Can someone please tell me if there is an auto setting for black and white on a Canon 60D? I just want to take some shots and let the camera decide.

It is under both picture style and ambience settings (as "monochrome").

Click here for the user manual. You can also tweak how you want the b&w to look with "filter effect."

Go into the menu settings and on the 2nd camera scroll to Picture Style. You can then choose monochrome. I won't bother to push the benefits and control of doing it in post processing.

Just a reminder that for most post processing software the Picture Styles for Canon will only show up if the images were shot in JPEG. The Canon DPP software will show the Picture Style for RAW images, as will the latest version of Lightroom (providing certain settings are chosen.)

That's why youtube is used by those of us less smart. :)

I'm not familiar with the 60D but on my 5diii 5div and 7d2 I keep one of my custom settings at monochrome

I never shoot digital in black and white. It results in a jpeg, and usually requires the use of colored filters for contrast control. I much prefer the flexibility of recording the scene as a raw file, and rendering it the way I see fit in post processing.

Here are some ideas that support my choice:

These are not the only way to produce a B&W image from a digital file.
