I understand but I don't think the comparison with cars is a fair one. I know many people buying new cars because the new cars but there are vast number of people buying new cars because their current one is not working right. I would be happy driving any of my previous cars if it's any where near like new condition.

My wife and I buy gently used, well-maintained, reliable car models with low mileage. We like to let others take the depreciation hit.

I don't know about you but I am happy with just about any cars as long as it works. Not so with cameras but I don't buy new cameras either. When I buy a camera I decide if it's good enough for me. If it is then I buy it and I won't buy anything else to replace it regardless until it breaks. I do often buy more cameras to supplement my existing cameras but not replacing.

The reason I am not driving a Ford with a flathead V8 engine because I don't own one that still working. You are buying new camera while I am sure your D4, D4s and D5 are working like new. There is a difference between buying a new camera because the current one broke vs buying a new camera because the new one comes out.

...and maybe, just maybe, the new camera will do things *better* and be more versatile than the older. Eh?

They most likely do. But once I decided that something is good enough I don't want more.

Hey Gerry, You might want to look at a Z4. From the start it will take your breath away.

...all well and good. But what you're propounding doesn't take into consideration that *some* folks see advantages in newer gear and are NOT just blindly seeking the "new." Maybe you could be a little less condescending, Mr. Bebu. ;0)

I think it depends on whether you are a professional or not. Personally I no longer do any photography for hire. While I can appreciate the new features available I can't justify spending money the price for top of the line gear. My next camera will be a Canon R5 after it has been out a couple of years and they are showing up on the used market.

The Z9 is coming. If I had any justification at all, and I could justify the cost, I'd buy one. Unfortunately, I have no need for the world's greatest camera.

Okay, you can start arguing now.

From preliminary reviews, it does look like a great camera.

I suggest it might be fortunate we have no need.

Likely costs more than 1,000 huckleberry waffle cones and doesn’t taste near as good.

OBTW, now wonder why the Z?

F was for film, right?

I thought D was for digital. P for pitiful. Or “point and shoot”? B for bargain?

To say nothing of 1s and As, and there were even some Es.

When I get a new camera I check out all the new features. But for the most part, with the exception of auto focus, I use them the same way I used my first DSLR, a Mamiya Sekor DTL. I do change the ISO at times. That said, I still like buying new cameras and seeing what they can do.

Since I'm planning on a new car in about a year, I won't be looking at a Z9.
