Running a bit late for our ride on the Georgetown Devil, stopped here for lunch. Food at the Clear Creek Cidery excellent, but a long time coming. No time to do justice photographing a very attractive little town. I did get a couple of Bridal Veil Falls. Despite there probably already being an Idaho Falls, wouldn't ya think...? That Bridal Veil Falls is not a natural water fall. The water in it is pumped up there from Clear Creek (the river next to the Interstate Highway below it)

I knew a guy who said that in high school, he and his buddies would go up there and shut off the water, just to PO the city fathers. Finally Idaho Springs made adjustments to stop the practice---or so the story goes.

Perhaps everyone is aware but that road supposedly got its name from President Ulysses S. Grant's verbal response to the sensation of traveling it during a visit to Colorado. When asked what he thought about the road, President Grant's alleged response was, "Oh My God!" The road is a bit "hairy" in spots but is a shortcut from Idaho Springs to Central City, 8 miles, and cuts off several miles of distance when taking the longer, but safer, way around. Idaho Springs was the site of the filming of the Clint Eastwood movie, "Every Which Way But Loose" a few years back.
Perhaps everyone is aware but that road supposedly... (show quote)

Thanks for the history lesson on Oh My God Road, I was not aware of that. I last drove that road about 10 years ago when I was in that area shooting photos. I drove from Central City so I was on the outside of the road which I have to say was a bit scary on that dirt road with no guard rails when I had to get by two dump trucks coming up the mountain! I was there again about 5 years ago with my wife and she wouldn’t let me take the road with her in the car.

I was driving down that road last year with my seven year old granddaughter in the back seat. The road is pretty tame now, widened and paved in spots and graded.

I was telling her about the road and suggested she look over the side to see how far down she could see. She said no thanks, it scared her. I told her I could go back and take a non-scary road. She said don't do that because she has to learn how to be brave. That about floored me and she was completely serious.
