A picture of "The Pope"..... What do you think? Yes, I want criticism

You want criticism of the photo itself or the Pope?
:-)
I think you produced a very good photo, well-focused and creative angle.
This photo has wonderful perspective, lighting, and colors. I photoshop many of my photos to correct some flaws. This does not need to be corrected. I would photoshop this because it is so good, to see what other looks I could get.
I like it. Wonder what it would look like in black and white?

Uh oh....looks like I might have created another topic that will stir emotion... I love photo's of statues, so let me change my question to "what do you think of the photo of a statue?"

Don't worry, I will not bite.
I just have no opinion on the photo itself, not knowing more on your background as a photographer. :-D

so you need her port folio to comment on this shot. I like the picture, see how easy that was.

Simple, if a pro...
where is the fill flash to open the shadow?
The hand positioning partially over an opening in the belfroy?
If an amateur or new hobbyist, nothing to say.
Does that explains it?
If yes, good, if not, blah.

I am not a pro. I am a hobbyist who would like to become more professional in my photographing. I could greatly benefit from helpful criticism. That is why I am on this site...I dont even understand the hand positioning partially over an opening in the belfroy. What is a belfroy....See what I mean. You know these things and could be very helpful...

Belfroy is the term for a church tower.
If you look at the statue's raised hand... it partially covers the opening (for bells?), no big deal but had you moved a few degrees to the right you would have avoided it.
A fill flash is a flash mode used to open the shadows so that you see more details w/o adding highlights (tricky to achieve if your have reflective surfaces like on this bronze(?) statue.)
Those two mistakes are critical for a pro. For a hobbyist who wants to learn? Just learn to pay attention to details and start experimenting in daylight with your flash.
In my mind I cannot give an opinion on some photographs because there two standards of criticism as if you are too picky you can discourage a person. If a 'pro' no holding back.
So, my response was: I hate the pope and what he represents, nothing on the picture.
This means I did not quite know what to make of it. It is an original angle and correctly exposed so why the two amateurish mistakes? Where is this person coming from?

sky is blown out. next time use a nd or a polarizer filter. i would crop most of the sky out, or if you are good at photo editing put a blue cloudy sky in. Im no fan of Popes either, but that looks like a statue of John Paul II, who was the only good one, and helped along with regan and thatcher to liberate eastern europe from the commies. alwas a good thing when the commies get stomped on.
