These 2 photos were shot is color and converted to B&W in Affinity Photo. Two vastly different subjects: a view from Grand Tetons NP and cascading water in a local stream after recent flooding. I have to choose one or the other. Opinions, critiques most welcome.

I like scenics, so I'd pick the first.
(Maybe brighten a bit?)
I really like the first subject matter, but it seems a little too dark so I would go with the second.

Both stunners, but the first is magnificently serene and picturesque š¤šššš¤
#1 is a very nice landscape, however on down load a lot of noise becomes apparent in the log buildings and fence. Iām not a fan on blurry waters, but this time I vote #2 due to the lack of noise and crispness of the rest of the picture.

Some of the B&W experts are better to comment than me, Mark. I like #1 the best and it's a great scene for B&W, but would like to see the dark areas lightened some. In double download there appears to be a lot of illumination noise. Can you process some of that out? It may not be an issue for your purpose, but Affinity Photo has a slide-bar for that. Affinity Photo also has a slide-bar for varying the tonal nature of B&W photos. You might try that to alter the photo.
I prefer the first. The building with the cross instantly grabs my attention then I can wander the rest of the image, but I am always drawn back to the building. I do agree with Gene that the exposure could be brought up some. The second while technically excellent does not hold my interest and I seem to wander aimlessly around the image without being drawn to any particular point of interest it is kind of ho-hum another stream.

#1 but looks like it needs levelling.
Like them both Mark but number one for me and as John N said it needs to be levelled slightly.
I agree with most, however, I would suggest lightening only the two buildings
Number one is definitely the winner. It has much more interest than the milky water.
