Now that Canon has discountinued the very popular Pixma Pro-100, how long will it be before they discontinue the production of ink cartridges?

Probably doesn't indicate much, they often discounted the printer over the years and / or gave free paper. If Canon inks were discontinued, and they are very profitable, there is still Precision Colors with everything needed to reset and refill cartridges.

I have tried Precision Inks and I have two issues with their ink set. First, I find the whole process of refilling cartridges rather messy. Second, I have not been able to find any literature as to the longevity of their inks. That is, how quickly will they begin to fade?

Well…they do sell the pro 200 and 300. They both use ink carts.

Hard to say. So many use third party inks refilling for that printer. Someone here just purchased one. I believe by law , 7 years from date of last sale. Either way, if they stopped selling, third party suppliers would probably still be an option with you buying cartridges from them(maybe with an empty cartridge exchange ) or modifying & refilling them yourself.

https://www.youtube.com/user/cheo1949 Jose does a test where he leaves photos in direct sunlight (maybe for a year) & shows the results & talks about it. It might be the video where he test protective sprays from Moab Papers & more. You will need to go through his vid list to find it. I think you will need to go back at least 2-3years to find it.

The only suggestion was that they’re still making ink cartridges

They will continue producing the cartridges for at least another several years. As long as there is sufficient demand for them, they will make them.

Does the PRO 200 use the same ink cartridges as the PRO 100 ? If so no problem.

Don't think Canon will stop. I have an old Pixma 4500 and they still make cartridges for it. My Pro-100 died on me and purchased the Pro-200 and would you believe I am having trouble getting the ink cartridges for that printer, especially the 8 pack.

The ink sets for the 200 and 300 printer will not fit the pixma pro-100 .
