From a somewhat different perspective...
As a workshop presenter I'd be delighted if each participants showed up with a bridge superzoom camera with a Zeiss lens (threaded for filter rings) that delivers 40X (manual zoom) and macro, a back-lit CMOS APS-C sensor of at least 16 mp, renders RAW Image files, bursts 10 to 12 fps, uses both contrast and phase AF with at least 10 crossed focus points, and is powered by rechargeable AA cells.
...and if that camera were available only in chartreuse metallic glitter finish I'd still buy it!

I have 2 of the 3; will probably get the new 70-200 f/4 VRIII when its available instead of the f/2.8.

Why not the new Lumix FZ200, with Leica lens, 24-600mm f.2.8 Constant Aperture, throughout. Approx. $550. My friend just bought one and the results are outstanding.

When I was shooting Leica, photodocumentary style, I liked a 35 and a 90.
For events, now I like full frame SLR 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8.
If shooting sports APS-C SLR, 18-135, 70-400.

Leica M6 and Summicrons 3.5 and 9.0cm would be really nice but in the meantime I'll stick with my Lumix g1 and it's two standard zooms :-)

im sure this has been asked before but if you could pick one body and just 2 lenses what would they be
thanks

I would not have a camera body with less than 4 lenses, preferably, depending on type(s) of photography done, up to a dozen or so.

I'm having a hard time splitting lenses between the Leica and the Zeiss.
One has a bit more reach and is a stop faster, the other might have better IQ.

How about a Hasselblad 203FE 6x6cm and the Zeiss Apo Sonnar T* 1700mm, f/4 lens

or this one
Leica APO-Telyt-R 1:5.6/1600mm and a Leica R mount camera to put it on.

OK that was the dreamers option to have and then sell to buy whatever you wanted. Camera gear, new car, boat, holiday shack, retirement portfolio.

Now for the realistic option.
Nikon D800
16-35mm
Only 2 lenses. mmmm second one is a toughy.
105 mm macro or a 70-200 maybe.
