I put this in the “Birds in Flight” section but thought it might get more responses here.
I am putting a trip together for next summer and part of the trip will take me through Minnesota from North Dakota. From Fargo toward Minneapolis via I94 then on to Chicago. This would be in late July. Having not birded or photographed birds in the state, I was hoping for tried and true suggestions for such. I will have 2 days to go off the beaten path. There are so many Nature preserves and lakes there that I feel slightly overwhelmed. I have listed the Minnesota River Birding Trail, and Itasca State Park (head of the Mississippi River) as suggestions. My husband is a birder and I take the photos. Thank you in advance for suggestions for the beautiful state.

Thank you, Bill. Thought you were the Florida expert. You must travel quite a bit, too. We are enjoying our Ohio birds and I have had fun photographing but this trip next summer offers some new opportunities. For that Sony. Thank you.
Don't for get to consider that, that part of the country can be very hot that time of year.

Just can't resist this cheap shot at Minnesota. Don't forget a shot of the Minnesota state bird. Especially in summer. The Mosquito

All these are super good locations for finding birds!
If you go out of state and are looking for eagles, Klamath Falls, Oregon is the home of a 1000 wintering eagles. Check out their website and see what are the best times of year for viewing. I was there in the spring and was not disappointed
Wabasha Minnesota has the National Eagle Center, a great place to stop and visit. Around Wabasha there are many breeding eagles that can be seen sitting on their nests, on the trees or fishing in the river.
