I just re-upped my NIK plug-in, which I find to be more managezble than the bw in LR.
The first photo I call “two hoodoos, one named Jason.“

The second and third are the same image. I ended up with a high key selection, but moved a couple of sliders around a bit, fussing just a few seconds. I like the black and white’s ability to show the texture of the juniper tree, but I also like the colors from the late evening light. I welcome opinions.

I really like both versions of the second shot.

The color version really compliments the entire scene while the black and white version really shows off the tree.

Beautiful shot! To me, Capitol Reef is the most overlooked NP in Utah. Of course, I would like it to stay that way.

Dial down the clarity and saturation in the greyscale image.

Although I greatly appreciate B&W images, the color version seems much better considering the nice golden light. Another time and the B&W might work, but not that image.

Normally a big fan of b&w when the subject calls for it, I really like both b&w images you posted. However, in this instance, the color image of the tree (and especially with the bird on top) is, to me, much more engaging and dramatic than the b&w rendition. Just shows ta go ya that there are courses for horses, and variety is the spice of life (enough cliches, right?)
