...Topaz Denoise AI NEVER worked for me.

Sorry to hear that.

I got Topaz DeNoise a couple months ago. I have used it and found it worth keeping. Have had no problems with it as a plugin to PS on Win10. It has been updated a couple times.

Not perfect, but better than what I was using.

Let me join the chorus ... unfulfilled promises, constant 'promos' $$ to gain functionality and as mentioned - just one more upgrade $$ to achieve everything you want - it never ends! And "if you just pre-order - have we got a deal for you". I was an original Luminar user and followed them through Luminar 4. Then after seeing no real value with AI, I stopped feeding Skylum. Lightroom for me.

Luminar AI, my first post-processor, is perfect for me. At $65 how could I not buy it? Virtually no learning curve. No problems so far. No missing features. No additional costs, so far. I'm happy with it. BUT, thanks for the warning!

Skylum doesn't consider Luminar AI to be an upgrade to Luminar 4, but simply a different program despite the many shared features. The upgrade to Luminar 4 will presumably be called Luminar 5.

If you go to the luminar site, you can read about Luminar Neo. The pre-release price is only $35 to the first 30,000 customers. I'm not 'made of money,' but, for me it is a low risk/high potential reward choice to make. And not a big upgrade price from the vendor for a lifetime license.

Luminar 4 was not out very long when it was replaced by Luminar AI...no upgrade path. To get the new features you had to purchase the program again...and the old catalog is not compatible.

Now Luminar Neo is about to be released...same story.

I am a big fan of Luminar $ despite occasional crashes like the inability to export bact to file. This is easily corrected by closing and re-opening the program. I was a great fan of Topaz until I started using Luminar 4. It is annoying that they constantly replace the program, but with the "loyalty" discount, Luminar Neo is only $34.
Here's an example from my post to the photo gallery today:

Before Adobe went subscription they would update PhotoShop around every 18 months. If you didn't upgrade you didn't pay anything. I used to purchase every other update. That worked fine for me. I never felt the neen to have the latest software, because I never learned the current version 100%. I did go to a number of Adobe sponsored workshops which were usuall more productive then getting new software.
