I want to thank all of you for voicing your opinion on this post. We are all of a like mind weather we want to live our lives as we wish or do we hide and do what others want us to do. I'm 86 and this may be my last trip and I want to do what I enjoy; and that is photography.
I like to travel with someone else, but I'm the last man standing. I really don't enjoy solo travel any more. It is nice to share the experience with a small group.
I'm glad that I signed up for this trip, and if the s.... happens; someone will have my back.
Many have talked about having great medical care close at hand. Not in my area. I called the local hospital to see about testing, and got a recorded message on how to find a local doctor.
I only have two medical concerns...1. if I fall down, I have a heck of a time getting up. 2. I don't do hills.

Have a great time and let us know how it goes! And sorry to hear that you don't have medical care in your home area (medical care does seem to be in very short supply in many areas of the US and this is made worse by the COVID pandemic) or photographic opportunities.
PS. Personally I very much resent your comment that some of us (myself included) ". . . hide and do what others want us to do". It is my choice not to take the increased risk of exposing myself to unknown variants and the greater chance of catching COVID via interactions with others, just as it is your choice to travel. Luckily I can find lots of photographic opportunities nearby, for example my whale watching photo trip this past week or owls hunting in the nearby fields or hummers coming to my yard (just to name a few local opportunities):

Great shots!
BTW, it is my choice to be safe also. I have a wife that needs me (I think) and 5 grandchildren that I want to enjoy as long as I am not infirm or incapacitated (I am 76), and then, hopefully, it will be my choice as well. After coming close to death a number of times (often from my own immaturity or lack of wisdom), I consider every day a gift, and I cherish it.

You are a master. Were you pro at some point? I live in the same backyard as you... at age 84 and tasked with Myasthenia Gravis I'm practically housebound. Photography and writing are about all I can do anymore. I sure enjoy your work, though!

I'm booked for a photograph workshop from 10/20 to 10/28 in Costra Rica.
What do you think the odds are for this to take place.?
International travel is so touch and go.
I'm packed and ready to go.
If you start out now, you can drive there.

Thank you very, very much! I am not and never have been a pro. I took up photography about 10 years ago when I retired and have been learning ever since (as well as buying myself new toys as cameras and lenses have been improving greatly over the years I started). Sorry to hear about your myasthenia gravis. As we all age, we have additional physical limits and I can surely understand the desire to travel before getting too old as expressed by Philo. I would not criticize him for going and don't feel that those of us who choose to play it safe should be criticized and told we "are hiding and doing what others want us to do".

Thanks! My wife doesn't need me but do have 4 grandchildren who I too want to enjoy and watch grow up. As someone who never new either of my grandfathers (both of mine died before I was born), I share your sentiments exactly!

Excellent, awesome shots πππ
Be very very careful in Mexico City
Even if you have insurance it wonβt matter unless you have good medical care.
Chances that you would be flown our on a private medical charter are slim.
Really man do you have to go!
This bug is going to be like this for another year at least until it gets pushed to the back ground.
Sure your trip is one of a lifetime but remember these countries havenβt had access to the vaccine like we have. They struggle everyday so you are at a higher risk of being exposed there than here for sure.
I'd really check the insurance, don't beat around the bush, ask directly is quarantee, trip cancellation, etc. due to Covid covered. My wife and I have med-evac insurance for any trip, but were notified last year that nothing relatdd to Covid is covered. Article in last Sunday paper told of couple who went to Greece, fully vacinated, tested, etc. still ended up in quarantine in Greece.
Our friend went to a Caribbean island on his honeymoon got really sick and was charged 8000 dollars for care then they wanted 25000 addition to bring him back to New York . He did not pay them the extra 25000. And unforgpuratlv died on the island . Photos can wait Not worth it right now
Mexico City just had a 7.4 earthquake. Hope the buildings are still standing. Hello aftershocks.
