Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Photography has been a love of mine for over 60 years. In retirement we are glad that we can do some good in getting our shelter kitties adopted.
2Dragons you and heatbonn are both correct regarding the eyes. This fellow was on edge but he did allow me to work with him. Yes you do have to work with what the animals give you with a lot of anticipation. You can't have a camera that lags when the shutter is pressed.

My wife and I volunteer at our local shelter to work with the kitties. Since I have been shooting photos for over 60 years, I thought that maybe I could help the kitties get adopted by making pictures of them and post them on facebook. "Shooting kitties" has been great fun and bloody for me(at times). There have been some very interesting shots over the past 7 years. This one, this week, really caught my attention. I surprised this fellow and he wasn't ready for his portrait. Thus he tried to inform me to go way. I didn't take him seriously but I still wanted to show his surprise. These two shots are of the same fellow 2 minutes apart with a few calming words between them. These were shot with Nikon Z6 II and kit lens.

what a beautiful cat, and your shots are wonderful...hope someone rescued him and took him home to
spoil and love.
Excellent photos, great looking cat!
Love cats. In the last shot, he is not hissing, but he is still very miffed. Obviously, he did not want his photo taken. Cat's faces can be so expressive.

How big is that cat and his age? Where is the shelter located? About 12 years ago i went to the local shelter and there was a cat that looked just like this on. There was a sign on his cage that said “ mature cat with a attitude” I asked if i could hold him, they said i could try he won’t let anyone near him.. I opened the door, he stood up and walked to me, i reached in and picked him up, held him on my shoulder, i told the lady I want this cat..she said he wants you too. “Ruffus” and i spent 12 years together, he did have Main Coon blood in him…the best damn cat that ever owned me…
Thanx for the photo, great..thanx,
George

The shelter is located in Cookeville TN. At this time we have over 45 kitties. This little fellow really wasn't so bad. I fell that he will be a great cat. He has been under the weather and every time someone comes to his cage they have a treatment for him so he thought that was what I was there for. I know what a threatening kitty is and this kitty isn't one.
