I was 12 years old and on a MATS (military air transport) 4 prop airliner going to Germany with my mother, sister, brother, and father who was in the Army and being stationed there in 1960.

It took 16 hrs. to get it there with stops at Gander, Newfoundland, Shannon, Ireland and finally arriving at Frankfort, Germany.
We lived there 5 yrs. before returning to the U.S. in 1965 at the age of 17.

Round robin near Miami, FL when I was about 8 years old. My father had a friend that was a pilot in WWII and he took us up in a two-seater warplane, one at a time, of course. My family was vacationing there that Summer.

What a variety of firsts. I thought that most of our first rides would be service related but there's a big bunch that aren't. Ever since my first ride to H.P School I've wanted to be a private pilot. But never made it, too busy holding our family together.

Service related would not be high numbers as they say about only 1% of us served in the military.
