Focus problem with 70-200 f4 L canon lens

I have a Canon 70-200 f4 L zoom lens. Could a Tiffen haze filter cause a soft focus issue. The Photos seem to be sharp without the filter, but are very soft with the filter on. My question is has anybody else had this issue? I have taken some of the pics on a tripod and hand held. could it be a bad filter? I have had good results in past with tiffen filters on my other lenses in the past. The Lens is hooked up to a Canon 7d MKII.

Thanks for any help.

If the images are better without the filter, ditch the filter. We can provide better confirmations by seeing actual with / without examples, as unedited JPEGs and stored attachments.

ALL filters (cheap ones, expensive ones, good ones, bad ones) have the ability to affect focus and image sharpness !.....
