#2, more highlights on the Beatle since it is closer.

Second one for sure... The eye is drawn to the subject much quicker...

Using the rule of thirds would be good. The beetle is too centered in the frame. Here is a photo that shows the rule of thirds. Try cropping some off the left side of the first photo and a little off the bottom.

Number 2 for me. I think a little bending of the "rule of thirds" in this photo is good. To me the small branches holding the early fruit are a combination of leading lines and framing for the beetle, making it the center of attention. Additionally, the pale color of the branches contrast nicely with the beetle's brilliant blue, making it stand out more.

to the OP, nice photo, great focus and good composition. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot for your useful views. About the grain I had used a Canon elph so that may be the reason.

The second one is better composition. If you could possibly removed objects to the right in post and crop a little tighter the subject would grab the viewer. All in all good photo.

I cropped your photo and removed a few extraneous items. If you look at what I did you eye will still be drawn to the red flower. I left it in the photo for you to see. I darkened the background flower bud and slightly lightened the beetle. As I was working on your photo It was very grainy, Not sure as to why???

Why do you both say that?

(See my questions about rule of thirds posted on page 3 of this thread).
