There used to be a Super Constellation based at Camarillo. She showed up for the Salinas, CA airshow in about 2000-2003. When she departed Sunday evening, you could see the nose drop when they wound up all 4 Wright Turbo Compound R-3350’S. The nose jumped back up when the pilot let off the brakes. Flames were shooting out of the exhaust. She had barely left the ground when she hit the last marker on the runway and cleared the boundary fence by about 20 feet.
I remember that Constellation being there. I didn't know where it was flown to when it departed Camarillo Airport. It looked a little worn, but still one beautiful aircraft. I was fortunate to have flown in those in the 50's. My last flight in one was when I departed Luke Air Force Base, Arizona and landed in N.Y. just before I was sent overseas to Germany. Guess that's when flying as a passenger was a beautiful experience.
