Topaz Sharpen AI- Returning sharpened picture to its proper place in the folder.

I use Topaz Sharpen AI as a plug in with Lightroom Classic. When the sharpened pictured is returned to LR it is generally placed at the end of the group (film strip) of pictures in the folder I'm working on. What makes it even weirder is that on occasion it will return it to its proper position. I cannot figure out a way to make it return to its proper place in the folder.

Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a solution?

I have never use d Topaz but the first thing I think about is the concept of “Proper place in folder”. Exactly what that means is between your mind and the display order you are using. Your ESP module has failed! Look at the sort order for the film strip which you are looking at. I suspect that is set in the library module and what you selected.

I am a heavy user of collections where the sort order for the same list of images may differ between collect you are viewing. It causes my mind to hurt. When you go to PS and back things are “controlled” by a setting when you set up PS as a “plug in” in LrC. AND if you add in use of stacking it be becomes a need to add ethanol to make things better.

Probably not much help. Now I will try to avoid trying making sense of all this yet again.

I think what he's saying is, when you edit with say Photoshop it always comes back in the film strip next to the photo that was edited and labeled wanted to or two of two. But in this case it is not there it's added at the end of the film strip.

Revise your sort order to time photo taken, instead of filename or date file created.

John, like you I am using Topaz products in LRC. Let’s see if this helps. I “round trip” from development or library module by “left click” under Edit In and chose which Topaz product or PS. I then take the first option at top that keeps all my LRC work up to this point (Crop, Exposure, WB & no sharping) in place. A Tiff file now appears along side each shot “round trip-ped”. My settings in Topaz or PS is when I “apply” or save in PS, it then takes me back to LRC and the improvements are in the Tiff file and visible. The Tiff file is beside original. Please note, this works in Collections and Folders equally. I then complete my edit of the new Tiff in LRC.

When in the Library Module of LR, look for the Sort pull down menu in the Tool Bar, which is immediately below the image window. If Tool Bar is not visible, press the keyboard "t" to toggle this toolbar on and off. By changing the sort order (also note ascending or descending icon beside the Sort tool), you can change how the filmstrip is organized. I've noticed that third party plugins sometimes alter previous sort settings and place modified images at the end of the filmstrip.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your replies. jgm I think you're onto something. I recently noticed that the sort option had changed. It was driving me crazy on why my pics in LR were suddenly jumbled. More specifically here's my issue. I like to shoot auto racing events. Often coming home with more than 500 pics. I download them into LR and then sort my pictures by the car number, i.e. all of the number 2 car are batched together. From there I start selecting the best pictures of car #2 and delete the ones I don't like. Once I have decided on the best I go through and decide which ones I want to sharpen using Topaz Sharpen. When I send it over to Topaz both the DNG and Tiff are returned to the end of the film strip defeating my original effort to sort them by number. So I end up moving them back to their proper position in my Library module. Not only does that add more time to the editing process (something I'm not in love with) but frustrates me to the point of not wanting to use Topaz at all. I am watching more closely what happens to the sort option upon the return from Topaz but not sure that's my total solution. Hopefully it is, if not more head scratching.

Happens to me also. Some times it returns next to the original & sometimes at the end of the film strip just like you say. I'm sure as heck not going to try & figure it out.

I’ve only been using Sharpen AI for a week or so and most of the time it places edited tiff file just after the original. One time it somehow scrambled the sort order (I always sort by capture time). I have no idea how that happened, and it took me a few minutes to figure it out. Perhaps it is a glitch in Sharpen AI?

In my case it does bring it back into LR with the Tiff after the original but at the end of the filmstrip (or folder). I sort by custom order and that's what makes it so frustrating when I have a lot of pictures. I went through the process of sorting the shoot (custom order) only to have to move the Topaz sharpened and DNG file back to its proper place.
