Another Sony/Minolta 100mm Soft floral

I shot this hoping to put the softness in the middle of the possible softness spectrum of the Minolta 100mm f2.8 Soft lens' capabilities.

Shot with a 12mm extension tube @ f3.5 and position #2 of the 3 possible positions. I tried to put the focus in the middle of the the blooms - hoping for a maximum encompassing DOF. Closing the aperture beyond f4.5 tends to erase any soft focus effects. Setting the focus control to the "0" position also erases any softness.

Did you saturate the flowers? Seem a bit hot....Just a thought.

Beautiful image, Larry. Are there guidelines on what floral settings look good shot soft? I'm new at this and tend to default to sharp or sharp with a shallow dof.

I know of no guide lines but there probably are some - right now just flying by the seat of my pants ....
