Wife is away at a Quilt Retreat, goes every year. I drag out all of the photo gear and cover the dining room table. Usually I play with stuff and run a few old lenses on new (and old ) cameras. We had a pretty bad Fire Season this year, three big fires close. I remembered that I couldn't recall my last inventory update. On top of that, another wonderful rainy day to keep me in! You might think this is an easy project, but I've been with Nikon since '67 or '68 haven't gotten rid of much, and bought a bunch. Film first then digital. Complete description, serial number, and lens accessories. Filters and Hoods add up fast, so I make note of them as well. Other accessories, an endless list, more filters, batteries, chargers, cases, remote releases, etc., etc. Will wait for another day. One tip, almost drove me crazy, just before the D series, and continuing with it, a minute, etched, black on black number just above the mount. My eyes are good, but I had to grab a pair of my wife's readers! The inventory goes to the bank box and secure online storage. If I have good light tomorrow, I'll photograph everything.

The list is always a good idea. Perhaps adding a picture of all the equipment might be a good idea as well.

Since going full time in the RV with limited space and just as importantly, weight limits, most of my "good stuff" is in storage. Except my currently in use camera gear. But back in the day, I used to dig out all my guns and camera gear and Scuba gear in regular use and not and clean them completely every year. A big job but satisfying and crucial to keeping everything in working order.
I don't often add to my gun collection any more, but I just added a Remington Model 700 .350 Remington Magnum Classic rifle so I needed to photograph it and record the Serial Number. And yes, it's beautiful. And yes, I'm in love again! It's actually around 30 years old New in Box off a dusty dealer's shelf. I have reason to believe it's only been fired the three times that they are all fired coming of the assembly line. I've been looking for one for more than 20 years!
QD will understand why I am including this in this response. (24 inch barrel and a THUMPER).

Quixdraw, my mother made quilts - a total of 98 by the time she died (at 98) for all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I have maybe 7-8 and sleep under one every night. Perhaps you could post some images of your wife’s? Would you mind if I posted an image of some of my mother’s?

I will post one of hers starting a new thread, though my shots are not the greatest. I'll call it a Quilt Free For All and ask for quilt photos. S/B Fun. I know my Wife will enjoy looking at it when she gets home. On the Way,

I recently took a look at all of the Nikon film equipment I had, six bodies and around 20 lenses and decided that it was crazy to hang on to them. My kids don't want to mess with film and they certainly have no idea of the value. KEH was having a buying event in town so I packed up the entire lot and made an appointment. The price they offered was disappointing but it was a few dollars over my walk away price, so now I have a Z6 with a small zoom and a lot more room in my office. (I will confess that I kept three of the newer lenses to use with the adapter)

It is all personal, no one can decide for or judge others choices except on the basis of their own life and context. That isn't a particularly useful methodology.

Also a good idea to give it to your insurance guy and have the best of the best insured. Does not cost that much and causes one to sleep better.

I don't perceive any judgement in my original response. I'm 70 years old and just wanted to point out an option to other collectors that have unused equipment. We may as well pass it on to someone that might cherish it and use it and this appears to be a better option than E-Bay

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for Paul of CANON to say something on this thread.

My entire collection would function as - mirror? garlic? cross? wooden stake? to a vampire.

Good for you!

I have all my old film cameras and still use them. True, my Nikon D500s and D7000 are my money cameras but i love to take a couple of them - perhaps my Canon T90 and maybe my AV1 along with a collection of my favorite lens and just take a ride on the back roads of NH. It's very pleasant experience for me - gets me away from the cares of this life. I'm long overdue for my next trip - COVID got in the way last year - the year from hell.

No, I don't develop my films. That what The Darkroom is for. When I get through with my T90s, I take the AA batteries out just in case.

I could process film or even print, but fortunately there is Dwaynes.

I keep an inventory of my lenses up to date, not so much the bodies. Once I record my bodies, I don't really update as they decrease in value. Keeping the serial numbers and info is enough. All my Canon equipment is also listed on my CPS account.

The other things I update inventories on are the household valuables and my fountain pen collection. Unlike my camera bodies, my pens actually increases in value for the most part. Between limited editions, used pens across the years and others, I have to keep the current values updated because my wife insists she wants to know how much to sell them for if I go first. That might be a catch-22, if she decides it is worth helping me move on!
