They asked you to remove the watermarks and make some other changes. Don't be annoying and ignore their requests. Either sell (or give) them what was asked, or tell them 'no'.

Whoa, I believe I now know where the U of UHH comes in. Sorry for initiating the conversation by asking questions of you.
The bank's marketing personal HAS NOT asked me to remove the watermark ... I thought I'd reach out to this group for a better understanding of how to respond to them should they ask. I have no problem with giving them the photos freely, as they are allowing me to post them on my Facebook page for marketing; but as I will be giving the rights to the photos to them for free, I thought I'd seek out from UHH on how to handle the Watermark.
Through the variety of answers, I did learn from each of the responses I got, even your earlier response CHG... but sorry that in such questioning, I was perceived as annoying.

Sorry, I meant annoying to your potential 'customer'. I read remove the vignette and watermark earlier, maybe over-reading in that memory. I'd like to see you be successful, but I have only an academic interest in the events.

Offer them the opportunity to license the use of the photos for a specific length of time. The agreement can be renewed. You retain ownership that way and they pay for the license.

I would also charge for that use.
It is an additional service you are providing beyond your initial contract.
The bank would do the same as would any other business doing additional work.
Ask you to do additional cabling over your contract and I bet you have done countless change order requests for that work.
No different.

I'm not a professional photographer... but I feel I take some good pictures.
The situation that I find myself in is... I run a network cabling company and lately I have been taking pictures of our customer's project sites, with the idea of posting on our Facebook page for marketing purposes. Along with the photos, I'll thank the customer for their business and tag their Facebook page, as well. Trying to let the public know about our services. Before I post the pictures, I submit them to the customer and ask for approval to post. I do this out of respect to the customer's comfort level regarding the social media exposure.
So far, the customers are excited about it, and approval isn't a problem... and I've been told by many of the customers that they are great pictures.
Well, now I have a customer (bank) that likes my pictures (5) and would like a copy of them. I posted them on an On-line sharing format, and made them Non-downloadable and with low resolution... and I also have a watermark on them. Of course I'm flattered, but it bothered me when their marketing personnel wanted to know if I could remove the vignetting effect.
Now the questions... since they are a longtime customer, do I tweak my processing and hand over the pictures in a higher resolution? Do I do this and keep my watermark on or remove it? Or do I do all the post processing only if they are willing to pay for the pictures... and then what does a person charge? I would like the exposure, and think that in the future, photography could be a hobby that could pay for itself. So do I insist that the watermark stays on, unless they are willing to buy my photos.
Your thoughts?

You'll need releases for any property or people depicted in the images. This usually implies that some form of compensation must change hands - from you to those granting the release.

The second you post an image that requires release and you don't have one, you leave yourself open to a lawsuit for unauthorized use of the image.

Watermarks are useless against unauthorized use. All they do is detract from the image and generally show that you are inexperienced and lack confidence. Better to register them with the US Copyright Office to establish your ownership rights, but more importantly enhance your chances of recovery of damages if you end up in court.

Lastly if you have no idea what to charge - this is going to sound harsh - you have no business doing this. From the sound of it, you probably don't have a registered photography business, pay quarterly taxes, or carry professional liability insurance - for openers. You'd be better off passing this on to a working pro who presumably has all his/her ducks in a row regarding copyright and releases and licenses, and will accommodate having you do the work under their name, or permit you to assist one of their shooters - this way your relationship with the customers remains intact, the photographer of record gets paid, and you use this as a learning opportunity so that at some point in the future you can do this entirely on your own.

CHG ... thank you for the clarification. I should of gone to bed and hoped for a clearer thought pattern in the morning.
Thank you all for your responses.
