This is 2004 with a Leica in Positano, Italy. The world is changing I can only imagine many of these people on their cell phones for the summer vacation. I was looking through my photos file and wanted to share these Italians on the summer vacation.

They don’t look terribly happy.

Between a hot (perhaps) and many miles of slogging from one tourist trap to another flesh to flesh, I'm not surprised. Is it any wonder that COVID had a huge impact in Italy?

It is a beautiful country with a wonderful gastronomical panorama. What's not to like? After COVID, that is

If I was younger and there was no COVID, I would head for less populated areas where food is king and enjoy the countryside.

Great shots, each one captures so much personality! Yes, in many ways it's a shame cell phones are ubiquitous now. We'll probably never see people's faces again. So these are extra special.

delightful reportage...
Couldn't help but smile at the Nikon & Kodak Logos in the first capture...

Yes how truly wonderful cell phones really are...
They have allowed the isolated to have cherished "face time" with those who are near and dear...
And Facebook has allowed distant relatives to share their life experiences in a continuous stream of posts on their timelines...

We are all blessed to live in such wonderful times...
Thank you for sharing your foray to Italy Tomcat5133

Excellent presentation ...
...In 1997, however, when dining in a Rome restaurant, all of three local patrons at my table were chatting on their cell phones ...

Very nice street shots showing the hustle and bustle of daily life, and the different expressions of the people in the shots.

I am overwhelmed with the great compliments and reflections like "the people don't look happy" which I didnt really notice. Tech note, no photoshop to match color and improve b&w. What I really feel great about is I have been trying as of late to be a street doc type shooter with my new Fuji gear. The camera was not that expensive LEICA DIGILUX 2 kind of a portable Leica at low price point. One other point is in 2004 I didnt know about "micro contrast" and only learned about it a few months ago. Thanks for making me feel good. Stay safe.

PS one of my goals (I still go some paid work not much mostly video) was to tell a story.
And the stories in the background of the theater of life. I only hoped the guy arm on beach
would have noticed the attractive blonde gal on the bench.
