I think both are very appealing, but I have to say I prefer the color. I find the blue and the stillness of the water very soothing. Sitting on the end of the dock would be time well spent.

Thanks very much for your input Vicki. Always great hearing from you. I wish we had more time to sit and take in the magnificent scenery.

Again, As always you're too kind Joe. Just so there's no confusion, This is his barrowed image with my Black & white preset. This is the same preset I use on all of my image upon their conversions. But the main draw is that the Oper's images has too much glare on the wood's surface. The presets tones down the brightness, and heightens the wood grain. Ideally, it's important to dehaze the images, then locate a darker black and white preset. The same holds true if I use the in camera Black & white preset/mode the image will tend to come forth as brighter with a grey tint. Always take the pictures in color then convert.

It’s pretty much a toss up for me too. I think the fact that the color palette is consistent in the color image, with the exception of the pier color, i.e. all blues and azure blue, I give color the win. If the color image had a third color present, e.g. a green, yellow, or red, I’d vote for the B&W.

The sky and mountains are really nice in the black and white. I do think the planking is kind of bright compared to the color or original. Draws too much from the rest.

Thanks Fergmark. I appreciate your analysis. I toned down the whites of the pier planks just a bit in this iteration.

I got lots of positive comments on the photos of the Chillon Castle pier in my previous post : https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-707167-1.html. I reworked the B&W slightly with Topaz B&W Effects 2 and I'm posting the color image which I processed with Luminar 4 and did not post. I'm curious to know which you like better.

Your edited pic is looking much better, But I suspect a polarizing filter would have removed the glare off the water. something to consider next time.

I much prefer the color image. I like the overall look - AND - the pier gives it an almost three dimensional effect!

For me I see the world in colour so I like photos in colour. So the colour version would be my choice. Years ago I shot only black and white - not because I preferred it just that I couldn't afford colour and I could process and print black & white in my little home darkroom. Haven't done a black & white since I went digital.
