Spent the last few days just camping at the lake with friends and running around in the woods checking out the huge cedar trees....was a blast!!

Lake Koocanusa is a 90-mile long, 370 ft deep lake held back by the 422 foot tall Libby Dam, located 16 miles upstream from the town of Libby.

Ross Creek Cedar is a grove of western red cedars, some of which are more than 8 feet in diameter, 175 ft tall and 500 to over 1000 yrs old. The friends that went with us...his uncle was one of 2 loggers that found this area while on a logging job and decided they could not log it. They contacted the forest service and in 1960 it became a protected park.

Very nice! Thanks for bringing this to us. Many years ago I camped under a giant western red cedar on an island off Vancouver. It is a breath-taking experience to just look upward at such a tree.

Thanks Joe...getting inside that tree was interesting for sure! It was more beautiful in person than in the pictures.

I’m sure there was a beautiful aged cedar wood air permeating the tree. Love that smell.

The Cedar Grove is amazing. It is wonderful that it was saved from logging. Not too many of the old giants still around.
