Photos of the Big Boy 4014 Steam Engine which left Cheyenne, Wyoming on Thursday for its 2021 tour. I chased it across SE WY into Nebraska almost 60 miles and three towns and several photo locations. Here are a few photos.

This years tour is shorter going to St Louis, New Orleans, Houston, Kansas City, and Denver and many small towns in between. Many Thousands of people will be out to see the Big Boy all along its route.

I saw crazy photographers climbing on top of parked boxcars and hopper rail cars on several sidings to get photos. Many had tripods on high platforms in pickup beds to get views over crowds. Seems like some were pro video people and also lots of drones were in the air.

If interested in seeing Big Boy, the largest steam engine ever built, check the Union Pacific Steam Club website for the schedule for the next month. It will return to its home base in Cheyenne, WY the day after Labor Day from Denver, CO

Excellent! You can buy a Lionel version of that for about $2,000. That's a bit too rich for my blood.

Great photos of an iconic rail era! Would like to be there when it rolls across Colorado.

You've got a couple of great shots. I know how hard it is, you don't have long to plan a shot and then it's gone. We never had big engines here but I enjoy what I do get to see.

These are very Nice! I photographed it yesterday as it rolled into K.C. I think mine are going to suck for the most part. I picked a bad spot; too many people rushing up to the tracks.

Nice! I saw a static Big Boy in Steamtown several years ago, and it was impressive!
