Friday, I visited the Anderson Japanese Garden located in Rockford, IL. I have little to compare it to beside the Chicago Botanic Garden Japanese Islands but I'm told this is supposed to be one of the top 5 Japanese gardens in the United States. I will say that is beautifully designed and very well maintained. I have typically gone in the Spring and Fall but COVID restrictions placed a damper on the past year or so. The garden is relatively small, something that can be easily and slowly walk in 2 hours. The nice part is that it is only 90 minutes Northwest of Chicago and relatively easy to get there by Tollway (i.e. expressway). Should you decide to visit, go early (they open at 9:00 am), since it does get very crowded later in the afternoons and especially on weekends. They also require advanced timed ticket purchases on-line due to COVID restrictions. I would recommend Spring but obviously anytime is good. I shot these pictures between approximately 10 am to 12 noon so lighting was not the best - many reflections and glare (particularly the last picture I've attached). I'm not very good at post-production so I strive to get it right straight from the camera (a fall back to film days). This concept works a fair amount of the time. Sometimes, nature and timing just don't work. Usually limit most post-production to cropping.
All pictures shot with a Nikon D5200 with a Nikon DX AF S-Nikkor 18-140 mm 1:35-5.6G ED and a CP filter.
(P.S. I know I've suddenly been posting a lot and that is because I retired last year and with the COVID restrictions finally being relaxed somewhat, I'm ready to get out and see something, as well as shoot some new memories. Feedback always welcome. I've learned to never stop learning and over the years, I've learned a lot by looking at everyone else's pictures here on the forum.)
Love the lighting thru the trees. And the bridges. A lovely series.
