Have you ever priced things on Amazon after signing in and then without signing in? My wife has the prime membership which we use when ordering something and recently I was looking up the same things on my iPad as she was on hers. Lo and behold the prices are more expensive for her…..roughly at or near what the prices were for me If I included the shipping. Free shipping indeed.
Also have you noticed that prime video is mostly not free anymore. More and more there is an extra cost to view a lot of movies. I guess he was right when he said his customers paid for his trip to space.

The same holds true for re-ordering items. Second time around the price often increases substantially.

I will not pay extra to see movie on Amazon Prime. If the film is not included at no extra cost, I will not watch it. And as far as different prices, I have noticed that too. I was looking at a pair of shoes---considered them for a few days, and the price kept changing. Finally ordered them when I got the lowest price.

I've experienced both situations. You have to do your research and not assume Amazon is on the up and up all the time.

Amazon is convenient and I am old. By the time I drive 20 miles each way to the city deal with traffic and parking only to discover what I want is out of stock at that store I realize the value of Amazon. Thank you no I'll pay a little more sometimes but avoid the aggravation

There are other places to go like Target.com, QVC.com, Etsy.com, EBay.com and then of course our old friend the Chinese outlet store Walmart and a big long list of others, so it's not just Amazon

I check stuff on Amazon, then click the link to the direct shippers website.

I'm not as old as you, yet, and I agree with you. Amazon may not be the best or cheapest site to order from but it is convenient, and don't a whole lot of us buy things at an inflated price at convenience stores because they are convenient?! There are times when I will shop the 'net for the absolute best total cost and there are times when I will pay a little more simply because it is so convenient.

My point in my post was that Amazon offers “free” shipping with prime and then charges more for the product.

Ever see the message that says "may be available from other suppliers without Prime shipping"? You can click on the link to check them out. Not usually a better deal, and not always with Prime's return policy. But they're there to compare.

I understand what your point is and I agree with you, although the higher price is not always the case. My point was about convenience and the cost of convenience. Yes, Amazon Prime does sometimes cost more, and sometimes it doesn't, but it's the convenience people are willing to pay for. If I'm not concerned about the convenience, I'll surf away until I find the absolute best deal. But sometimes Amazon is the only place I can find some things.

Amazon still gets a piece of the action.

This is the case not just for Amazon, but for many websítes. Their software tracks your interest (subsequent visits after the first), and frequently will raise the price. This is a tactic used by the airlines on ticket reservations, and sometimes can amount to a considerable difference - several hundred dollars on a trip for my daughter from CT to CA a few years ago. Of course, I also have experienced the minute by minute airline price changes!

Why do people stray from the point of the thread to make their own point? I'll confess, I have been guilty.

Hmmm... Matter of fact.....
