Hi folks,
I'm new here - Although I've been a photographer for years - mostly wedding and children. I got burnt out and started back up during covid - doing mostly abstract- fine art - etc.
For my first round of printing - I did macros of flowers. I would like to print them on acrylic.
I see they offer it:
https://www.printique.com/products/acrylic-prints/Few questions - has anyone here printed their work on acrylic? Do you have any examples?
Did you do the thin or the block?
Also - how do reds - register on acrylic?
Any advice is greatly appreciated since these are a bit pricey and I want to make sure they reflect the idea/vision I have for my work.
Thank you!
I've done only very few, which means I prepared .jpg's and sent them to Bay Photo for printing. They're actually metal prints and acrylic covers, with a thin spacer and a variety of available mounting hardware.
I prefer the half inch acrylic, but it's very expensive and very heavy if you get large prints. My largest is 30'"x40" and probably weighs around thirty pounds or a little more. (I haven't weighed it though).
I looked at several quarter inch, varying sizes, a few days ago. They're really quite satisfactory, but a little less "alive".
As you said, this stuff is expensive. Bay photo offers a 25% percent discount for your first order, and they run. frequent promotions. Shipping is also expensive. I was very happy with their service, and I will certainly use them again unless I find similar quality from someone closer, to save some of the shipping expense.

Correct me if I am wrong on this. You print in reverse on the acrylic and view it from the unprinted side. This would be a stunning effect I would think.
Problems I can for see are, mounting issues for displaying it and surface fragility of (both sides I would think). Acrylic will show scratches eventually. Just saying.
CVS acrylic panels 20x30 $149, 50% off = $75 shipped free to any CVS store. Sale ends tomorrow.
I’ve printed on the 1/4 inch acrylic using Bay Photo. It comes with the mounting hardware and was easy to hang. It is expensive, but it’s a great look for the right photo. I’ll do it again.

Hi welcome to the group. I myself am relatively new as well, however I can contribute in your query; I printed two 8x12 blocks with no mounting hardware as stated previously quite heavy so I would not recommend wall mounting.
If you have choice in surface definitely go with metallic prints as the acrylic makes them pop. Only thing I would mention is they are quite reflective so location will be a consideration too much window light or at certain angles you will lose all details and contrast.
As far as how reds register, I was perfectly happy in the reds of my print (make sure you have a calibrated monitor, as long as you are getting accurate colors on your file you should not get any surprises on return of prints)
I have attached the file, then a photo taken with my phone and the side so you can see the block surface. Hope this helps, it is a nice way to present your work unpractical due to weight relative to the size of prints though.

What an eye-catchingly beautiful subject

I have printed on acrylic and never printed in reverse, I have used paper with asticky background and applied the photo to wooden placques for gifts. I sprayed them with a very good acrlic clear 3 coutes. Had great resuts.
Colors were fantastic.
I have printed on acrylic with a sticky backside. I placed the photos on wooden placques and sprayed it with a very good clear acrylic apray. They make wonderful gifts. The results were excelent. Make sure you get a good clear spray. 3 coutes should do it, but that depends on how glossy you want them. I do not use glossy acrylic paper.
Night try tht next time.

Thank you! I compared Bay to Printique - looks to be about same price - Printique offers free shipping and 15% off first order.
I'm a bit confused though... I think Bay prints on paper and then puts acrylic on top? Do I understand that right?
Printique prints on the acrylic.

Yes, that's right for Bay Photo. The results are outstanding! The print itself is on aluminum.
I don't know about Printique.
