This is a Waved Sphinx Moth that was attracted to the UV Light of our 'bug zapper' last night. They are quite large compared to the most common moths that gather around our porch light at night.

I've attached a copy of a full size view of a Waved Sphinx Moth taken from Insect Identification.org (with credit) for reference.

Thanks, for an insect that is harmless to people for it has no "mouth" does look quite intimidating. Now what would be a real terror would be the caterpillars for they are the real eating machines.
