My second Canon Pro 9000 with a new head last year has a clogged up Black and Magenta. I have deep cleaned 3 times and still get streaks in prints. I like Canon Printers but since I need to buy a new printer I am open to something else. I don't want to spend a fortune, so what models do you suggest?

You want dye ink or pigment ink?

I have two Canon Pro 10s - 13x19 pigment printers - that I use to make 500-1000 8x8 prints every Christmas for distribution to family. The rest of the year they sit virtually unused. I've had them for at least 4 years, and don't think I've ever had a head clog, using Precision Color inks exclusively after the first year. If they've been off for a while it does take a bit for them to come on line, as they have a fairly extensive "warmup" process which includes a minute or two shaking the cartridges with short, quick back-and-forth action of the carriage.

They may have been discontinued, but I'd buy the replacement model if one of mine died.

I'm using the Pixma Pro 100 and love it. The 100 has extensive excellent reviews everywhere. The only negatives I have seen have been from using third-party inks. It was recently discontinued so you'll be getting the 200 if you go that route.

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MkII and have cleaned the print head several times. When deep cleaning does not work, remove the print head from the printer and soak and rinse in warm water followed by flushing water through the individual color jets. It is important that the head be COMPLETELY dried before reinstalling in the printer. This link video shows you how it is accomplished. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFdM9Z6Nnxg

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 10, now discontinued that I really like and think it is straight forward to use.

At Santa Fe Photo Workshop classes, I have used their Epson high-end printers. I think the Epson's require more paper alignment work when putting a sheet of 13 x 19 paper in the printer. Also, I think there is an additional adjustment required when you use matte paper...but I make these points cautiously as I have not used the Epsons to any significant amount.

A big change in the last few years seems to be that some of the printers are using much larger ink cartridges and that would be a big plus although a big expense when replacing them as well.

I don't think you could go wrong with either Canon or Epson printers.

I love my Canon Pro 100, I go months sometimes between print jobs with no issues. I ONLY use Canon inks in my printer.

The Canon 9000, Pro 10 and Pro 100 mentioned so far are obsolete for this discussion. They are not made anymore. Both Epson and Canon have new models that are made for photographers. They typically employ a minimum of six color cartridges. The popular Canon Pro-100 used eight dye ink cartridges.

The only thing really new for us photographers is tank printers that use bottles of ink. Epson has one coming that uses six tanks and is being marketed as photo capable.

Up until recently I would have recommended a Canon Pro 1000. I have had a problem of it showing LOW ink and will not let me bypass it. Called Canon found it blocked me as it said I did mot have a Canon Printer. Finally got in by going to SALES as they had live people and transferred me to a tech he told me what to do, it didn't work and he washed his hands of it. Called Corp office and they are concerned that all my newer equipment has not showed up and the printer ($1,000.00) is not working properly.
ALL MY RAVES ABOUT HOWV GREAT CANON IS HAS GONE TO HELL. My thoughts of the R5 is gone.

You might try an Epson EcoTank 8550. It has six large tanks that cost almost the same as the small cartridges but you get about seven times the number of prints. I believe the going price is $699.99. Print quality is excellent IMHO.

If you find you need to buy a new printer check out "JToolman" YouTube videos. Jose is a printer guru and I believe currently has a stable of 17 printers. He is a wealth of information for all things printers. He also has a fb group where you can ask specific questions.

I have an Epson XP-960 that was inexpensive and I think does a good job with photos. It prints 11X17, which is close to 13x19 and with a similar aspect ratio. Perhaps the 'experts' will poo-poo it but I am very happy with it.

I've dropped Canon for printing and scanning after successive and repeat failures of their hardware. After my Canoscan 8400F died with the interminable 'calibrating the light source' error, and successive models of Canon printers which Just Stopped Working (Boom - Dead) - I got an Epson Workforce 2830 (AIO) and an Epson Perfection V600 scanner. Were I to do it over - I'd strongly consider an Epson EcoTank printer. YMMV.
Due to my stable of lenses - I'm pretty much locked into crop-frame Canon cameras (currently with an 80D and a 7D Mk-1) - but neither camera shows any signs of dying and both are much more capable of capturing images than I am.
