I have some Cokin filters, still around the shop from the film days. The coloured polarizers are good for special effects, however, they may have been discontinued and the split ND ain't too bad. They are made of a decent grade of optical quality plastic and need to be stored and cleaned carefully. I don't know what their current products are like, but I'm sure they can be used in digital work.

I find them handy for special effects and to bringing out stress-patterning plastic objects. The filters and filter holders I have to do no fit my less with large front elements.

The Cokin filters are fun to use and experiment with, however, for more serious applications, I prefer high-quality glass filters.

Just the Cokin "P" plastic slide in filter adapter mounted to the lens in conjunction with the lens rings for the variety of lens sizes.

Used to, but found they limiting, I prefer larger graduated filters now. But Cokin makes many interesting filters, I started out with them and learned a lot before moving to larger filters.

I used to use the Cokin P holder system, but never with any filters from Cokin. The filters I used came from other companies.

Cokin P is an adequate system, but may not be wide enough for some of today's lenses that have filter mounts of 77mm or larger. A Cokin P holder accepts filters 84mm wide. Cokin also has smaller filter systems.

I now use the Nisi V6 system. Most of the filters it accepts are 100mm. Its Circular polarizer is 86mm. Check out the starter kit.

I have had the Cokin system for years, since the film days, when I used it more often. Now, however, I consciously bring the system along when I anticipate landscapes with a wide range of light and shadow. The best photos I’ve gotten, as an example, were using a graduated ND grey filter when shooting in the Blue Ridge mountains. I needed to “darken” the sky so that I could get the details of the mountains, shadows, and vegetation. I prefer to get as much as I can using optical methods, rather than just rely on PP later on. Plus which I could sort of see the results right away, on site, and at least know that the images were coming out as I wanted them to. All that said, I have not used any of my other filters from the film days; just the grey graduated ND ones, and perhaps once or twice, a graduated blue ND. Hope this helps. JimR
