Just a word of advice, I've received 3 calls suppose ably from PCH saying I've won a million dollars. Their spiel sounds reasonable till they say you've got to pay around $500 for transfer taxes. A closer look at the I.D. and telephone number shows the call is from an 876 area code which is Kingston Jamaica. Spread the word and be careful. Oh on another robo and spam call, do what I do , answer in German , "Guden Morgen, Spricten De Dorsch" then say "nein Nein" and hang up.

But even if there's a tiny chance you could become a millionaire...

Love it! I do not answer my phone anymore unless I recognize the number. I let it go to VM. If it’s from a Robo caller, I then block the number.

That's why I like my call blocker. The phone rings just once, and the blocker disconnects. I just have to sure that people I know can get through.

Who Owns the House?

Even with things like NOMOROBO and the telephone provider apps, we still on occasion get junk telephone calls from companies trying to sell you something. So, rather than wasting the opportunity, I like to have some fun with these annoying folks. A while ago, I get a call from some company trying to sell me solar panels.

BTW, I hope you remember Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First" routine. Here's how my call from the Solar company went:

Caller: We are offering you a way to cut your electricity bill with “Home Solar.” Are you the homeowner?
Me: No. (That was a lie.)

Caller: Who owns the house?
Me: Yes

Caller: The person who owns the house.
Me: Who

Caller: Is that a relative of yours?
Me: No

Caller: So what is the name of the person who owns the house?
Me: No, who owns the house?

Caller: That’s what I’d like to know…who owns the house?
Me: Yes

…and on and on it went…at some point, the caller got quite disoriented, and shouted out for a supervisor to come on the line. I didn’t wish to continue this with a supervisor with an American accent. So, I hung up, and related the call to my wife who got a big belly-laff. Then I hit the “call block” button on my phone.

Longshadow, thanks for the idea. The next time I receive one of those calls, I'll reply in Russian. Let's see how that goes.

Any call where the caller speaks with a forign accent is a scam. They're almost always generated from an underdeveloped country. When in doubt of the legitimacy of an unsolicited call, report it to the FTA.

I say you sound like a nice person, does your parents know you are a thief and you steal money from people? Why do you do that? By that time I generally hear a hang up.

I play little games with these types.

“Did I really win rhree million dolla.”
“You surely did!”
“Does it come with a black Mercedes S-950 sedan”
“It does.”

After a few more mins to make sure they will also deliver the S-950, and I inform that Mercedes does not make such a vehicle, expletive roll!

I have heard that there is a little blank space between your "Hello" and their "Can you hear me?" and that they insert something that you are saying yes to instead of their question you heard. I just don't answer any calls coming from numbers I don't know.

Robo calls used to drive me crazy. Even though I had caller ID, they'd appear to be from a local number or even someone I know. (Once, believe it or not, I even got one from my husband--who'd been dead about 8 years at that point!) Anyway, I eventually needed to replace the phone system, and the new system allows me to set up so that after the first ring, there's an intercept that explains it's a call screening system and tells people I know or who do business with me to speak their name. If they do, then they're rung through and the name of the caller is announced. Only twice in about a year now have I gotten a solicitation call, but at least I had the satisfaction of having a real person I could tell to never darken my metaphorical doorstep again before I added the number to the blocked call list. Once someone whom I want to talk to calls and goes through the screening process the first time, I can enter their number in the Allowed list and henceforth their calls come straight through. Most times these days I barely even notice the first ring before the screening system cuts in and takes over. Once of the best purchases I've made in years!

I like the responsive robo-calls. They ask how are you doing.
If you say "okay", they respond with "That's good.".
If you say lousy, they respond "Sorry to hear that.".

I answer something like "Glicknarf foodal norf."
Then there is a pause.... while it "thinks".
They don't know what to respond.....

When my phone shows "SCAM LIKELY"
I say...I'm done but there is blood all over, send the cleaners

Dean, the set I got back in November from Amazon is this one: VTech IS8151-5 Super Long Range 5 Handset DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone for Home with Answering Machine, 2300 ft Range, Call Blocking, Bluetooth, Headset Jack, Power Backup, Intercom, Expandable to 12 HS. The IS8151 is the basic model number, and the number after the hyphen indicates the number of handsets in the set.

Just checked on Amazon and they don't seem to have them anymore, but you can find them at the VTech site here: https://www.vtechphones.com/search-results?parameters=IS8151 or by searching for VTech IS8151 at Best Buy.

Hope this helps.
