Camera gear can save your life...really, no joke. I have a Nikkor 200mm F/4 D ED AF macro lens and I used it as a club to beat back a grizzly bear and with the lump on its head I doubt that it will be back. Of course I had to wipe the blood and fur off the glass before I used it again.

This reminds me of an article I saw decades ago about a guy who built his camera with a long lens into a rifle stock. Said it improved s stability. My immediate thought was, yeah, that would go over well in a public area.

I had a pistol grip for my Minolta SRT a while back. It was useful when I was using a telephoto lens. While doing some street shots in Munich (72-76), I was asked to remove it by the Polizei. It seemed there were a few folks who complained, reporting a possible shooter. The Polizei actually laughed about it when I handed it to him.
