I might as well approach the big issue (for me) first, can the machine accomplish
anything for me when I am totally Apple OS and have NO interest in using a Windows computer?
Boris
I have no experience with apple, but I'd doubt it very much.
I don't believe there is any current software updates for either system.
Again, I am totally without knowledge re: anything Apple.
Sorry I can't help more.

Thank you. That is what I expected from attempting to use older machinery as the OS was updated. Unless someone chose to write new software the machinery became non-functional.
I do have one other question that might affect other people. Do 35mm Slides have to be taken out of their mounts in order to be scanned?
Boris
Yes, all film must be unmounted as it is placed in a carrier that is bent around a "drum" during the scanning process.
Functionally, this creates a perfectly flat surface at the scan line, ala drum scanner.
For an excellent intro to drum scanning check this site:
https://www.michaelstricklandimages.com/blog/2018/4/4/drum-scanningThe Imacon does very close to the same thing without the "lathe" spinning the acrylic tube, oiling, taping etc. It uses a straight forward dry process.
Thank you for very clear information. I was in the printing industry for 40+ years, actually saw drum scanners in operation at the shops I ferried film to. To the point I wanted to be sure about, I do not want to unmount my slides, I would rather lose image area. I have a Epson V600 flatbed scanner; I will try some scans on it if I ever get tired of my new digital camera images.
Hopefully the information you have posted will help explain your equipment to other potential buyers.
