is silver efex pro a good B&W program for raw editing in light room ? Does the plug in down load easy in LR ?
Hi ImageMine I use Efx pro whenever I work in black and white. So many good options. I highly recommend it.

Silver Efex Pro is one of the most popular modules in the Nik Collection. There is a 30 day free trial available before you purchase the Nik Collection. I strongly suggest you try it and make sure its working the way you want it to before buying it. Keep in mind that besides Silver Efex Pro, when you purchase the Nik Coll3ection 4 you are also getting Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Define, HDR Efex Pro, Perspective Efex, Sharpener Pro, and Viveza. Only Silver Efex Pro is specific to B&W.
IMHO Silver Efex Pro is the must useful filter for converting color to B&W
The 2012 Nik Collection - free is still available via web search. It installs on a PC but Mac Big Sur does not allow it to be installed as a plug-in. Here is a work-around for Mac

Alternately, install it as a stand-alone.
Check out the Silver Efex Pro tutorials on the DXO web site. They are great.

According to educator Matt Kloskowski the B+W profiles in Lightroom Classic were written by the same guy that wrote Silver Efex when he came over to Adobe several years ago. I do a good bit of b+w and find myself preferring the profiles to SE, which I still have.

I agree. And with the new SilverEfex Pro in NIK 4 you can do both Global and Local adjustments and a slider for Clear View (haze reduction) has been added. If you like the look of old film types, these are now incorporated into the slider choices.
Look at some of the recent webinars on Silver Efex at NIK webinars. View the ones by Dan Hughes and Photo Joseph in June and July. Each one is about 1 hour long.

I have numerous means to create B&W photos, but Silver Efex is by far my favorite.
Silver Efex Pro is a good program for producing black and white images. It's one of several methods I use. Simply desaturating a color image is probably the least effective path to take.
The plug-in downloads like any other application. Once installed, you may need to let Lr know it's there and where it's located. That is also pretty easy.

If I'm reading your question correctly, Silver Efex Pro is
not a raw editor. Lightroom is the raw editor, and converts an image to TIFF (or JPEG or PSD) when it sends to Silver Efex Pro. I always choose 16-bit TIFF and either the Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB color space.
Silver Efex Pro is an outstanding B&W editor. The NIK Collection from DxO Labs is very easy to install and integrates well with Lightroom and Photoshop. In addition to using the presets in Silver Efex Pro, it is worthwhile to learn the individual settings.
thanx much is exactly what I wanted to know !

I use it from time to time with ACR and Ps.
