You could get one of those small hard drives or SSDs that has an SD card slot.

Maybe the adapter cannot work with a large card? How old is the adapter?

I just bought a week ago. I just tried with my wife's Samsung phone and it worked. My phone is a Google Pixel.
Now I have to bring her with me!

I bought an SD cards reader adapter to connect to my Android phone with a USB C. I was planning to upload my photos, using the phone, while traveling to my cloud drive.
The phone gives me an error: drive is corrupt. Then it wants to format it. The card is fine. It is fine in the camera and computer.
Any ideas?

Another way to back up my photos without having to bring my laptop. This is an 18 trip and trying to minimize the load.
Thanks in advance.

I have the Ravpower travel file hub with a sandisk 2 terrabyte drive. The hub will accept the SD card and upload to the disk.
You might research this hub so see if it will work for you.

I use an on the go plug that reads SD cards and has USB ports with my Samsung phone and tablet. I backup my SD card each day to 2 flash drives. I have done this for years without any problems. I would not travel without being able to have at least two copies of my images. I have also used a Kingston Mobilite and 1 tb hard drive within my backup scheme. It is slower but works just as well. Neither system requires a laptop.

I am not in favor of using one SD card each day because you have no backup if the card is either lost or damaged.
I would rather have two copies and not need the second then need the second and not have it. I have had quality SD cards fail during a trip.

Agreed. SD cards for storage it is not my fav. I want to back them to cloud and or HD

The reader itself should be okay then- arg! on the phone difference.
Luckily both mine & my wife's phone are Samsungs.
(Albeit mine is 8 years old.......)

Look at Rav power file hub and.external drive.
It connects to a hard drive and accepts SD cards.
Side note;
I was able to connect the hard drive to my phone and was able to see the files

I will research it. I am trying to minimize my load, so any laptop solution - I am avoiding.
Thank you

It seems as though the issue is that your card reader either doesn’t work with a Google Pixel phone, or the phone requires a special card format. I’d be doing Google searches for those issues. I don’t know how many Google Pixel phones are out there, but there are advantages to sticking with more established brands.

That may be your problem. Google pixel runs on Google chrome os I think. They are SPECIAL. I got a Google chrome book, hate it.

I am NOT sure how this would help you - if the camera is reporting the SD card as corrupt.
Again - I'd recommend formatting the card in the camera, then upload your days images to your cloud account.
If you're happy with the cloud results - then reformat the card in camera for the next days shoot.
Upload, reformat, repeat.

Read closer. The camera is not saying the card is corrupt, the phone is when he tries to upload from the card. Uploading to the cloud is a non-starter. For me, after a day of shooting, uploading to the cloud might take hours, especially if I’m traveling and have no idea what service is like.
I’m not familiar with SSK, but I have a 2TB WD MyPassport. It has an SD slot and I can control it with ny phone.

I also travel a lot, like you, and although I do take my laptop for quick edits and uploads to Facebook and other location... Just like you, I want that Extra insurance... On one 3 week trip to Paris, France, my laptop "died" during the second day out... and I was "out of luck for that backup" so had to sparingly, make sure I had copies onto my 8 128 Meg SD cards and worked very hard at keeping them clean... Vowed to never let that happened again..

Sooo, I bought a portable storage device when I got home...

May I offer the following for your kind consideration,

NEXTO DI NPS-10 Nexto Photo Storage device ~~ which is offered at B&H, but can be found at other locations...

Key Features
Portable Photo / Video Backup Unit
Review Photo & Video Content
2.4" 320x 240 Color LCD Display
1 x CompactFlash Type 1 Card Slot
2 x UHS-II SD Card Slots
1 x microSD Card Slot
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Port
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A Port
Data Transfers up to 320 MB/s
Windows, Mac, and Linux Compatible

The KEY Feature of this device, unlike others, is that you can view your content on a builtin LCD screen

A URL for the product is listed below:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1481554-REG/nexto_di_nps_10_cfast_portable_all_in_1.html

As for me, I will continue to carry my laptop, but I fully believe in Backup, Backup, Backup... and am serious about making copies all the time.......... I also, if and/when I get next to a good internet connection, will also send my images to my cloud account...

I fully know that there are many different solutions out there, and range in size and price as well and device functionalities .......... BUT, the above device allows you "view" your backups and insure, they are "OK" at that point in time...

Hope the above can help you and I wish you safe travels..... and Keep on Clicking

Cheers

How much memory do you have in your phone? That’s something you might want to consider before using it as the backup device for your photos.

You can buy a used Hyperdrive made by Sanho. You put the SD card in the slot on the Hyperdrive and the images are transferred to the Hyperdrive. They remain there until you transfer them to a computer. Google ColorSpace UDMA2.

You can buy a GnarBox2 SSD new that will do mostly the same thing.

These devices and other similar devices come with hard drives of varying sizes. If you go this route, make sure the device and your SD cards are 100% compatible. These are costly. You may be able to rent one from LensRentals.com or some other place if you do not want to buy it.

I would buy extra cards and a card carrier and deal with it when I got home.
