Quixdraw, I always wear a helmet regardless of what the State Laws allow. It makes it much easier to identify the body. I was a goggle guy for face shields always either fogged or would never clean clear enough for me. Riding a motorcycle at night gives you quite an experience when you get whacked by a June Bug driving 60-mph or so down the highway and no one could ever relate to how much the rain stings at those speeds either.
The one I particularly recall, in full leather, helmet, face shield somewhere on the Illinois / Wisconsin border. Motoring along at some speed, hit a virtual cloud of tiny bugs. Every front surface coated, face shield opaque. The front of brown leather, yellow. Fortunately open road, no traffic and no harm done. no idea what they were. Exciting!
