Larryhav Life is a compromise and the bridge camera route is the wrong route, it has a non-changeable attached zoom with all the bulk of a DSLR. You will be pleased with any of the Superzooms offered. Sorry for the time spent with Superfly's wanderings, but the clarity of information is paramount when making an expensive choices in cameras. Once purchased you live with the choice for a long time.

Again Superfly, do your homework, this is not a political/emotional prove yourself-right-issue and the numbers are the comparison criteria. All three of the companies, Sony, Canon, and Panasonic offer great pocket size 1" Superzoom Cameras. In my case the decision was made on reach and being retired and on a limited budget... Price. See the preview conclusion below. At the time of the purchase, only Sony and Panasonic offered 1" Superzooms.

Superfly said..."you can get the Sony RX10MIV."
Certainly, the Sony is great, but you are switching the issue... With the addon 2.2x, I was offering a solution to your diversion issue of greater reach by suggesting a low-cost addon... as with many things choice is a compromise, but with our new AI software, any minor Image Quality issues are usually resolvable.
Here is a comparison reference... sorry it has numbers:

Article titled: Best enthusiast long zoom cameras in 2021
Conclusion: "Overall, we like the ZS100 not because it's the best camera in its class, but because it strikes a great balance between size and focal range. And, since it's near the end of its lifespan, it's a real bargain."

Image Comparison:

My Panasonic TZ100 new cost me $500 because it was not current when TZ200 was. At that time the reach of the TZ100 was greater than the Sony. Consider that the Sony RX10MIV is about 3 times the cost, about $1500. The quality of the TZ100 is excellent as is the Sony. The Panasonic fit my Pocket and my Pocketbook.

Again Bridge Cameras are bulky compared to the superzooms that fit in one's pocket and are there 24/7 ready for the perhaps unexpected photo happening. If not pocket there is a case for the Superzooms that clip onto your belt. Have a good day reading specifications Supefly.

I’ve done my homework which is why I bought the Sony RX10MIV. Here you are again, pushing your crappy add-on telephoto and posting a link to a comparison that doesn’t even include one of the cameras in question. I’m sure your reasons for your choice work for you, but EVERY reason you give was distinctly stated to NOT be important to the OP. I’ve had and shot Lumix cameras and liked a lot of things about them. They often have unique features I’ve found useful. The one area they’ve consistently come up short is speed of focus. They’re fine for static subjects but for wildlife and action the can’t come close to the RX10MIV, which has the same autofocus system as their full frame A9.

Since cost or price is not a concern to the OP as stated in his post and with your extensive experience, of all the bridge cameras out there, which would you recommend, a new Leica M-10 or the new Leica V-Lux5.

Well, since the M-10 isn’t a bridge camera and the V-Lux5 is essentially a rebranded Lumix FZ1000 I would go with the Sony RX10MIV

Sorry S-F, yep, just a plain digital but since the OP said money was no object, just thought I'd mention it... Cheers!

Well, it is clear that there are several points of view on this subject and each has its merits. For me, pictures are worth a thousand words and Gene, 11Bravo and Alphanso49UK have certainly made a very good case for the Sony RX10 IV and the Panasonic FZ1000V1. Also, I have been carrying about 10lbs of camera gear with my Canon 5DIV, 24-105 lens and 100 - 400 cannon lenses but I am getting too old to carry all that weight and have to change lenses to hopefully get the shot. I know I could be giving up the power of the 5DIV but since I am not planning to print large photos to hang on the wall, I think it is worth it. I love the feel of 5DIV body and from what I have seen from the 3 bridge cameras I mentioned in my original post, they look and feel similar. I did not consider anything smaller as I don't need it to fit in my pocket and I think it would be harder to capture BIF and wildlife photos. I also appreciate all the comments and technical links you all sent making a case for each camera and in some cases a few other cameras. So, again, thank you all for all the great photos, technical links and personal experiences you provided me. My next step is to go to my local camera shop and see if they have any of the 3 bridge cameras so I can hold them and see which feels best for me. Then I will rent each and make my final decision. Thanks again!

Interestingly, Sony RX-100 vs Lumix LX-10 at cameradecision.com: the Lumix comes out ahead, and costs about 40% less.

Totally different cameras. One has a 25X zoom, the other a 3X. One is a bridge camera, one is a pocketable model. I would have compared it to the DMC-FZ2500 or DC-FZ1000 II.

Do you imagine the Lumix LX-10 would be slow to focus with a 1.4 aperture?

Yes. It has nothing to do with the aperture. Their focus system is just not as fast. I used to shoot their top of the line M4/3 camera, the Lumix G9 and it didn’t come close to the focus speed of the RX10MIV. As much as I loved the G9 in many ways I switched to an Olympus E-M1X for my M4/3 needs, mainly for the bird tracking.

The Sony RX10MKIV cannot be beat in quality. Some of the others zoom further( I also have an SX70) . But my go to grab it in case camera is the RX10MKIV. Downside is cost.
