The OP put the camera up for sale weeks ago. So, I'm unsure of your need to push the argument. All I've done is responded to specific replies to me.

Regarding your imaginary image throw-down, you're welcome to browse my 600+ posted to the UHH photo gallery or the Flickr photostream on which those posts are based. You offered an image saying "this is why" an 7-year old 20MP crop-body should be kept rather than sold as excess to an EOS 5DIV. Then you get your noise bent out of shape when that same image is used as a demonstration of actually why not to keep the old body. Grow up.

You need to get out in the real world--it is easy to go after someone with a very difficult shot--I am just pointing out the obvious..your photos don't sell in the real world. Maybe you should get your head out of a book and get out in the real world and see how you do with real world conditions. Not understanding the difficulty of a shot vs a doughnut shot is your problem. Tearing people's work apart when your work doesn't register in the real world is pathetic. Just pointing out the obvious. There is nothing worse than a geek that knows it all, yet can't compete in the real world.

When you open the JPEG attachment in a new browser window or download and open the file locally on your computer, the image file is 1714-pixels wide. Depending on your viewing screen, you may / may not be seeing the image at the 1:1 pixel level details. On my monitor / browser, the 1150-pixel height of the image causes the image to initially scale to the height of my window that is 1080px, smaller than the pixel-height of the image . That is, I see the image slightly less than the 1:1 details. If I click once onto the image, the image is resized to the width of my window showing the 1:1 details 'across' and cropping off the top of the image. This first step explains how to view the 1:1 pixel-level details.

The attachment simply adds some annotation over the original image. Noise in this hatch pattern (a combination vertical and horizontal banding) will tend to be more from the post processing than the image itself. But, its root-cause is the original image file in that the ability to adjust the exposure is limited by this possible grid pattern noise being a result of overprocessing an underexposed original.
When you open the JPEG attachment in a new browser... (show quote)

Thank you Paul.

I would like to go back to the original question.

Keep the 7D2, you will find use for it.

With EOS full-frame cameras as an option, why did you ever have a 7DII?

Ans to still need: No.

I have the Canon 5Diii and it is a heavy one- should I go for a
mirrorless & lighter camera?

I have the Canon 5Diii as my primary camera. It becomes heavy after awhile. Great photos.
I have what is now display cameras, i.e., Minolta SRT101, SRT102, XG7, HTSi, and others. They are great cameras when I could use them, but now no mercury batteries or film for them. The digital world came to be. If you can modify them to work, it is now too expensive.

I’m in the same predicament, I recently bought a R5 and my poor 7D II just sits. My 7DII was such a good camera I feel bad selling it (it feels more like a pet). But — We should probably sell while used camera prices are so high.

I recently purchased a used 7D ll. (10.000) shutter count. I have always wanted this camera and I love it. It takes great wildlife photos. I would keep it for the crop factor and the frames per second. It is an iconic camera and was state of the art wildlife camera in it's time (2014).

It is still a great camera -- I love mine. Takes great captures.

The new R7 will make the 7D Mk II Obsolete?!

Is that a statement of fact or a question? Should I throw my 7D2 in the dumpster? Should I buy a new R7? These are real questions I’m considering. I’ve heard Mirrorless can be life changing 😎
