The point is with BBF you don’t need to set it to S-AF to do that.

Thanks. I'll experiment with leaving it in C-AF

Superflys OM-D must work different from mine.

On mine you have to be mindful there are two BBF settings, one for S-AF the other for C-AF. If you set BBF only for S-AF and then use C-AF shutter mode the camera won’t BBF. I tried this on my OM-D EM-5 Mii yesterday and verified that is the case.

Earlier you said you AEL/AEF setting was S3/C2/M1. The middle setting needs to be C3 for it to operate in BBF in continuous shutter mode.

It has nothing to do with that. I really don’t care about the settings for S-AF. With BBF I can leave it in C-AF and effectively have S-AF by just releasing the button once I’ve achieved focus.

That makes perfect sense. I guess that's why I never thought of it

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate everybody's feedback. However I still have the initial problem. I think I will try the remote app for my phone and bypass the shutter button see if problem persists.

I hope someone can help me out because I've been pulling my hair out over this issue LOL. I've posted this question to a couple of Olympus forums so far no responses. My hopes here are kinda slim also but decided I'd try. Not that hoggers aren't knowledgable or helpful but I suspect the number of Olympus users here is quite small and the ones that use BBF would be even smaller.
I've been trying to set up BBF on my EM5 MK2, but with no success. I've watched every Youtube video on the subject and followed their directions.
Menu> Custom Menu> AEL/AFL> S-AF> Mode 3. I then set the FN1 button to be the BBF button.
I then check the shutter button by pressing halfway and it doesn't focus. So far so good. I press the FN1 button and it focuses. So far so good. I then press the shutter button to take the picture and if I've recomposed it tries to refocus. Not good. I've ended up with numerous blurry photos I've had to delete.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Probably something obvious. Thanks for any help.

Don't have the Em-5 but have the EM-1 Mk2. With it there is an additional function under the AEL/AFL sub menu titled " Halfway AF". This must be off or you will encounter the difficulties you reference.

Of course you can do that.

But OP was using S-AF. Were trying to solve OPs problem, not change the way he likes to shoot.

You didn’t by chance just do a firmware update did you?

It is definitely sounding like there is a problem with the camera. I have have had a couple weird problems with my Oly and after showing the problem to the Olympus expert at Sammy’s Camera, he confirmed it needed to go back to Olympus for repair.

Is there a camera store you can go to that handles Olympus? They should have an Olympus expert there.

If not try contacting Olympus with a description of the issue. They are pretty good about responding with things to try. If they the suggestions don’t work they will give you a return/repair authorization.

No haven't done any firmware update. An Olympus rep responded on one of the forums I posted on and couldn't fix the problem. It's a great little camera and I use it more than my Nikon D850, but I'm not going to spend any money on repairs. I can buy another one on Ebay for 300 bucks. Thanks for the replies.
