I can identify. I sometimes wonder why my lens won't focus. Oh, yeah, I forgot I place it in manual mode.

Don't worry, it happens to everyone- even young folks!

I dunno - when I was in college, if a test question was based on the text book, I would sit and concentrate and the page the Q was based on would appear in my mind. I would read it and know the answer. Happened to me many times! I'd hate to have to pass tests now based on that ability - or the current lack of it. :-( Harry
It's called a brain fart( no insult intended). It happens from time to time. Chalk it up to experience. I do stuff like that when I don't touch my equipment for a few to several months.
I'm only 72. And I thought I was the only one who did stupid things like that.
Age is catching up with you sure

I guess we all do dumb things at times. While some laugh at themselves others worry about the possibility of a declining brain. Here's something that happened to me yesterday. My Nikon 7200's settings were set for birds in flight and I wanted to reset it for still subjects. When I pressed the menu button the menu didn't come up. I pressed it a couple more times and still nothing. I turned the camera off and back on, hit the menu button and still nothing. Then I realized I was looking at the small monitor at the top of the camera instead of the rear monitor. Should I 🤣 or

That is a strange one. I have done a few really odd things from time to time with my digital cameras. But these days I get confused when I try using one of my old 35mm film cameras.
If we cannot laugh at ourselves, then we should not laugh at others.

Yes. Turn the dial to the Bird Logo.

I'll need to see if I can locate that on my camera.🤣🤣
At least you found your error before it became and international problem..., :-)

Brain fart.... Those happen more and more often with age.
Yeah, it could have been worse. You could have posted here asking for help, been told to call Nikon customer service, dialed them and been on hold waiting for them for 15 minutes, spent 45 minutes on the phone sorting out the problem... and only then realized your mistake! (Don't ask me how I know
)

Memory is the second thing that goes... forgot what the first is!
Laugh and enjoy life. I look at it like this, my brain is a computer model in excess of 70 years old, it’s never been reformatted or defragmented, though at times cleaned with alcohol which they say is like lossy compression. Many of the images are still as vivid as when saved though some have started to fade. Apparently I should have used more key words when archiving and if things had not been moved ‘outside of Lightroom’ retrieval would be admittedly be easier or faster. But what the hell, it’s laughable to imagine still using a your I Mac or raid into the 23rd century.
Welcome to the club. Learn to laugh at these "senior slips".
