We were going to drive up the coast from San Fran to Portland in August but decided to avoid the construction on 101 at Last Chance Grade (by Redwood National Forrest). Instead we decided on the route I've attached. Does anyone have any advice? We were thinking of stopping 6 nights along the way and then 2 more in Portland.

I'd definitely consider Crater Lake but check fire updates. The Rogue Valley (Medford/Ashland) and areas inland are experiencing smoke from fires and high heat. I'd suggest seeing the redwoods at Jedidiah Smith State Park near Crescent City if you don't drive north up Highway 1 in California. Good shorebirds showing up now along the coast.

Here is a link to a Seattle based photographers workshop to central and southern Oregon coast. It will give you an idea of some of the wonderful locations on Oregon's coast. I live in Washington, but find the Oregon coast unsurpassed for landscape work.

Thank you thank you for your route suggestions as I’ll be doing the same thing in August.

Nancy said "Outside Crescent City "Stout Grove" is a short loop hike with different settings around every bend."
She is so right. !!
Jed Smith State Park is a wonderful place to spend as much time can.
