Italians pronouncing English are prone to this. My wife and I were touring the Malfi coast with a local guide who kept pointing out of our vehicle saying "Look, Dan Dare!". We never did spot our comic hero. Later in the day she added two more characters "Bill Towers" and "Rocky Walls" neither of whom we actually spotted.
