I got to see them take off from an air base in Okinawa many years ago. Quite impressive.

A perfect shot, given the subject! You balanced light and dark well to get this effect. Good job!
The lighting adds to this planes mystic .

Got to see the SR-71 at the Castle Air Force Base in Merced Calif fly over and land among all the B52 bombers and refueling planes, (1980s), just enough fuel to make it to the base, do a couple of quick flybys and then taxing to the receiving area to be decommissioned and displayed outdoors at Castle AFB museum. Got a few photos that day. Interesting tidbit about that trip, the pilot and copilot flew over in the fastest plane of the day and then were driven back to their base in an Air Force sedan.
A craft by which all others will be measured!

Yes. I went to Kadena a couple of times from Guam when we evacuated for typhoons.
If you have the time and are neat Ohio the Air Force Museum is well worth visiting.
Among other things they have an SR-71 Blackbird in better lighting. I Was blown away by the only remaining Valkyrie Super sonic nuclear bomber.
The gallery photos on their web site are worth a look too.

That was the last plane they used a slide rule on as I understand.
They did a nice job on the lighting. Great photo.

There was as program on Sky tv about this aircraft and how it flew at very high altitude where other aircraft could not go with the exception of the English Electric Lightning flown by the RAF. This aircraft had a phenomenal rate of climb and would have been the only aircraft to intercept the SRN 71

Great airplane. It’s good to see that a few of them are preserved. I’m attaching two photos taken in early 1971 with my first TTL metering SLR, a Canon FT-QL bought at the Air Force Exchange. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch the one as it was about to land, flying low. JimR
At first, I thought it was too dark. But on second glance, the darkness suits it. It adds a stealth feel to it and gives me a Batman vibe. Well done!
