For me, attendance at a 4th of July Fireworks show depends on two things: it's NOT raining; And, the temperature is BELOW 90 degrees. This year was just perfect for that ..... it started out at 83 and got down to 75, with very low humidity ..... and, coincidentally, came after a hiatus of 3 years of no fireworks (2020 being a special case).
Canon 7D MK II, full Manual Mode, f/8, ISO 100, Bulb Mode with remote cable shutter release (2 to 4 seconds to catch light trails), Manual focus using Live View, mounted on Manfrotto tripod with Manfrotto Geared Tripod Head.
Tamron 18-400mm lens, shot at full Wide Angle (18mm) with VC set off, (recommended when using a tripod), AF set to MF.
Excellent work and a great contrast to the horrible job I managed to do! Well done.

Were you shooting with a camera or a smartphone?

I was shooting with a Sony RX100 M3, in the rain without a tripod. :)

I'm not familiar with that camera. The closest I come in my own collection is a Sony HX80 with a SCN (Scene) Mode for Fireworks. I've never tried it before but it sounds like an interesting experiment. The trick is using a long exposure, low ISO to get a black sky in the background, and a medium f/stop to capture some Depth of Field. I haven't tried the Fireworks Mode to see if it will do all that, but I DO know the camera has to be absolutely motionless whlel recording light trails, so I would think a tripod is a must, or at least a monopod (or setting the camera on a table or car top).
You make me want to try this next year

Thank you very much for the help, next year I am going to set up in advance and see what I can do. This little Sony likewise has a Fireworks scene setting, and I bet makes a good effort at dummy proofing some of the settings. It will be fun to try and I once again thank you for your help here. Very, very generous of you.
