Converting CR2 files to JPG

I've apparently been away too long. I'm using Photoshop CC on subscription. I used to be able to open a raw file, make changes to the image and the save it as a PSD or JPG directly. I just tried it and JPG is not a choice. What happened and how do I save CR2 images as JPGs?

Is there a "Convert and Save" option?

Did you add any layers in PS? Layered files can't be saved as JPG. You would have to flatten it first.

PS recently made some changes to how files are saved...so to save as a JPG used the Save a Copy command in the Files tab. There you will find jpg as an option. There is a method to revert back to the old was in the preferences, dialog, but you can find that information elsewhere in the forum.

And NO, you most certainly DO NOT have to flatten a layered PS image being worked in order to save it as a jpg.

Hi
If you have changed your cr2 files to 16 bit they will not open as jpeg. try image mode then a menu will tell you what your files are
When saving check that the default is save as jpeg if not drop down menu will give you another choice/
Hope this helps.

This is correct. I noticed this issue myself. Not sure why they changed it or from which version but I liked it the old way. It saved an extra step when adding my logo.

That recent PS change has annoyed me. I'm old, and changes to my workflow tend to do that.

I used to be able to Save As and pick jpg as one of the choices. Now to save as a jpg I use Export. There is a Quick Export as PNG command (under the File menu) which is a quick way to export an image but it gives you a png rather than a jpg. Can be useful occasionally but I usually want a jpg.

For jpg I have occasionally been using File => Export => Export As, which brings up a dialog that allows you to save a lot of formats, jpg among them. I have been thinking of recording an action to do that but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. The only problem with that approach is that it's a two-step process that results in a save dialog that Save as Copy goes to directly. The advantage of Export As is that it allows you to adjust other parameters such as image size or scaling.

Save as Copy is easiest.

Very easy solution: Go to Edit>Preferences>File Handling>Tic "Enable legacy 'Save as'". That's it - back to normal.

Many many thanks
Always good to be able to get back to my old habits.

And thanks for spending your first UHH post on something so important.

I also have noticed the change in a recent update of PS. I called Adobe and they said it has been moved to Edit-Save a copy..... , When the pop up appears click on "Save as type" down arrow and select "JPG" (A shortcut is Alt+Ctrl+S).
Unfortunately this step adds "copy" to the file name, which I remove.

This solution resolves the issue, but in addition, there's another check to avoid adding the word "copy" to the file name.

Here's a video telling you how to revert to the "Save As" configuration of the past:
