On June 1, I bought a Kindle on June 1. Included was an offer for MS 365 for one year. I didn't want that, and I indicated as much. I got a surprise today on my CC statement. I was charged $55.11 for one year of that 365 program. When I spoke to Amazon, they said it was part of a package, and they could not refund part of it. So, basically, they added $55.11 to the price of the Kindle. I've been on the phone with several people, but at this point, I'm stuck with the charge, and there's no way for me to download the software.

Just a heads-up when you order something electronic.

Can’t you deny the charge with your credit card company? If it was just for the MS 365 I don’t see why you couldn’t do that.

+1 for the return it. Also, the 365 can be cancelled so worst case you have it one year. It may be beyond the return period by now. If so, then CC company may be the only other option. They (all stores, not just Amazon) all pull this stuff. I've had to uncheck a box for something like that 2-3 times in a single transaction. The latest was an order for 3 items from Amazon that should get free shipping and had to change it from paid to free 4 times total before I finished buying. Good luck sorting it out.

Just return the Kindle, and buy it elsewhere. Problem solved.

Jeff Bezos is the "Nasty Surprise" you get when you deal with Amazon. He is the "Quinicential asshole" of this era. Do business with him and take your chances. Saved alot of money buying from Amazon?

...had lunch with him lately? Reading stuff on the internet more likely. <shrug> I couldn't care less about Bezos, it's not *him* I'm doing business with. Yes, I've saved a ton of money having what I want delivered to my house...sometimes a good deal, ALL times the time I would spend running around.

I’ve saved a ton of money buying on Amazon. Convenience is also amazing.

Jerry, call your credit card company and contest the charge. If you didn't authorize they will investigate for you. However, you didn't state what you thought you should have paid.

The Kindle was $114, and the MS 365 was another $55. I've been in a situation somewhat similar to this before. If I complain to my CC company, they'll investigate and see that both items were offered as a package, so they won't give me a refund. That's understandable.

As it turns out, though, being persistent got me an apology and a refund, so I'm happy, and I learned a lesson.

Yes, and it is ridiculously convenient. Still, I check prices online before ordering from Amazon. I wanted transmission fluid today. Amazon - $15; mail order Honda dealer - $8.00 with a moderate shipping charge.

Concerning my original problem, as it turns out, being persistent got me an apology and a refund, so I'm happy, and I learned a lesson.

Yes, prices sometimes aren’t the cheapest. Good to always check elsewhere.

...haha, well you and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I use Amazon for many things and love it. Sure there's a problem once in awhile, but it's usually me! I might do more than 10 transactions a month, but I'm very active and still doing jobs so it's a great tool for me...

To those who don't know. Amazon customer service is 888 280-4331. This number has served me well. You are on the phone in a matter of minutes with a person and I have always been satisfied with the response. I do many transactions with Amazon and the few times there is a problem I have always been well taken care of by their customer service.

I just googled that number and they said it was a scam, that the people who answer it say they are from Amazon but are not.

How did you pay? If you used PP or a credit card you can file for relief. Sometimes it takes a while, but you will get your money back. One time it took me 4 months to get money back from PP.

...good on you! I found a number that really works: 844-311-0406 this one is for order difficulties (including you getting someone else's order!) and I know it works, used it a couple of times.
