UHHers, I'm hoping to sell/close on a piece of property in July. I plan to beg my wife to let me spend some money for a new camera. My old Nikon D80 crapped out a few months ago. ERR message that wont go away.
I have five lenses and three batteries for the D80 plus other gizmos including a flash. My question is, what do I buy on a limited budget to replace the D80? I wouldn't mind buying a used camera from a reliable source if it would get me a more up-to-date model.
Thanks.

D300?
D7000?
Those are not expensive used and good replacement for the D80. The D5xxx and D3xxx has only 1 command dial.

Look at a used D7200 @ 24MP vs a new D7500 @ 21MP vs a new D500 @ 21MP. All three options maintain compatibility with your existing D80 lenses. All three are from the same advanced tier as the D80 camera. I think you can buy more camera for less with a used D7200. You'll have to decide.

B & H, Adorama, KEH, Samys Camera, and mpb.com are trustworthy sellers of used cameras and accessories.
I have bought from all of them with no problems.
The D80 is a pretty old Nikon Model. You may want to upgrading to a newer DSLR, APC Nikon model like a D500, D7200 or a D7500.
You will be able to use the lenses you have now with these models and others.

Have the D7200 - excellent, even compared to fancier models. Another good source for guaranteed used is Roberts Used Photo Pro. Have bought a lot of gear from them, all excellent value and quality.

I have a d7200. It gives me very sharp photos, sometimes not composed so well but I don't think that's the cameras fault. It has never let me down. KEH has one for about five and a half.

Look for a Nikon D500 or a Nikon D750. Can't go wrong with a good one!!!

I second the use of Used Photo Pro (Roberts) for equipment. I particularly like the fact that they provide detailed photos (incl. s/n), shutter activation counts, and good descriptions. So many stores provide stock photos so you have to rely on their ratings to have any clue to what you are getting. UPP claims to now be the largest reseller of photo equipment, doing $1M per month in sales. Sometimes, they also list their stock on eBay (with a markup). Stock seems to move quickly, so don't suppress your GAS!

I don't know which lenses the OP is referring to, but if any of them need a motor in the body for autofocus, the D5xxx and D3xxx are out. D7xxx makes sense, new or used depending on budget. D300? Too old in my opinion.

Someone recommended the D750. The D80 is DX and the D750 is FX, and if you use DX lenses on the D750, you won't get the same performance/pixels as you would on a dedicated DX body.

That post suggested the OP couldn't go wrong with a D750, except of course, in all the ways that matter relative to a budget and pixel resolution...

D7200, D500 or a Z50 mirror less with adapter .......all used if possible . I have all three...bought new, love both the D7200 and especially the D500 but the jury is still out on the Z50 until I get my FTZ adaptor so I can use some better lenses than the two came with it...

Several years ago I replaced my D80 with a D610. I know they don’t make this camera anymore but it has served me well and works flawlessly with all of the lenses I have accumulated over the years (even my old manual focus Nikkors).

You may want to check out the Z50 body with FTZ adaptor, but only if your existing lenses are compatible. That would bring you into the Nikon mirrorless world where most of the development $ are going.
