I have two 7dmk2’s, two 5dmk4, a 90d, an sx70, a 1dxmkii and a Sony Rx 10 mk4. Why not. They are not making anymore of these great cameras. All have less than 10000 shutter counts. These were some of the greatest DSLR cameras ever made. They are capable of taking better photos than I am capable of. Both the 7d and 5d’s are extremely durable. Less than 2 years ago, the 1dx mkii was the finest pro camera ever made. I wouldn’t take anything for these legendary cameras. All were bought used except the 90d and the sx70. I saved a ton on all the used ones.

Put me in the Keep Both group. I did and am glad I did. The 5Div is a remarkable camera and the 7DII fills in with some of the images that need some extra reach such as for example humming birds and other winged visitors at our backyard garden.

No the 7Dii is now totally useless and obsolete you can send it to me and I will dispose of it humanely and efficiently.
Either that or you can use it with a zoom lens for a bit more reach due to the crop factor.

I have a 5d4 and 7d2. Would I miss the 7d2 if I sold it for the going $650 or so? Absolutely! The 1.6 crop factor and a 100-400 is a nice combination for moving target shots. And who doesn’t benefit from 12fps? I’ll definitely keep both. It comes down to your needs.

It is ok Chg_Canon I can even correct myself. I was wrong, it wasn't six models I shot that day, it was seven with over a couple thousand shots made. Here with the 7D. This isn't about you or me here, it is about whether or not the 7D should be kept by the original poster. Chill and please share some of your fine Canon work, ok, as you are so ready to criticize other's . LOL

Funny how the ones with the most toxic and dumb criticism to spew, have the least amount of their own work to show, or none at all ever, hmmmm.

Unlike those folks, I am happy to share both my work as well as my experiences, that directly speak to the thread topic. Cheers

Paul posts his excellent pro quality work on UHH regularly (just check his new threads) and in addition to his zen humor (which you’ve apparently not appreciated), he never brags about HIS accomplishments and daily offers in-depth help and assistance for those having photographic issues (unlike some others I could name).

I seems to me if you are serious about shooting wildlife, especially birds the 7D mark II is superior to the 5DIV because of its 1.6X multiplication factor. It transforms a 400mm lens into a 640mm lens.

I do not know about the 5DIV noise performance, but when Roger N. Clark (a senior scientist at the Planetary Science Institute) tested the 5DIII and the 7DII he found that the noise performance of the 7DII was superior to the 5DIII. You can find his article at https://clarkvision.com/reviews/evaluation-canon-7dii/

Despite the test, having owned both cameras (and currently a 5D4), I can tell you that the opposite is true - the FF 5D3 (and the 5D4 even more so) have lower noise at high ISOs to the 7D2 - approximately 1 stop better. In fact, I traded up my 7D2 to a 5D3 for exactly this reason as I was shooting lots of indoor, low light sports. For some excellent data on DR and low light/high ISO performance, I highly recommend: https://photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm and be sure to look at the performance data in the tables below the chart.

If the OP shoots BIF, then I can see a reason to keep the 7D2, but the DR (2 stops worse) and low light/high ISO performance (1.5 stops worse) is definitely inferior to his 5D4.

I recently took delivery of a Canon 5d matk IV. Since then, I have been shooting landscapes, wildlife and BIF's. What I have found is that the 5D4 is superior to the 7D2 in every way except for the frames per sec. burst rate. So, other than the fact you probably can't buy any more new 7D2's, do I really need to keep it? I haven't touched it since the arrival of the 5D4. I'm sure it feels neglected. So, reader, do you have an opinion? What would you do if you were in my photo shoes?

Always good to have a backup camera and the 7D II is a great camera!

I have similar situation by having a Canon 5Diii.
Is it still considered an excellent camera by today’s standards?
