Venmo is intended for paying for services or paying your portion of a split bill from dinner among friends / known payees. If you pay your rent to your landlord, you know who you're paying and what you're paying for. That is 100% different than buying a good, to be shipped, from an unknown seller, from the internet. All the dispute resolutions of PayPal are missing from Venmo. Skipping PayPal for a sale of a good is a risk to both the seller and buyer.
Even PP can be a risk if you are not careful. Twice someone tried to scam me with sending me an ok to ship paid invoice from PP. Both times I checked my account and no money. The invoices fool some people cuz they look legit.
