Nikonrumors says they are also coming out with a 600mm S lens for the Z.

I guess the newest must haves now is a camera that shoots 30 f.p.s... I'll accept my loss and go with the winner!

30fps is neither news nor state of the art. But if 30 rows your yacht, just make it a great 30. Make sure it starts recording *before* you press the shutter release.

Human reflexes being what they are, you don’t want 10 to 20 frame bursts showing only the moments that happened *after* the best moment has slid forever into unrecorded history.

Everybody seems to wants the latest gear. Except me. Photography is my "second hobby." My first is field trialing bird dogs and spaniels (two different venues) I spend over 12K a year on that which is a lot for a retired college professor. I have a couple of dslr bodies and way too many lens. For me that's a lifetime supply. At least until someone comes out with a 500mp camera with legs that follows me around reading my mind and taking perfect pics of what I want. With a super sharp 10-600 lens that weighs 8 oz. Just in case I ever have to pck it up. You know - like if it has trouble climbing in my car or I have to take it on horseback because it can't keep up. (We run our bird dogs from HB.) :-) So like I said, I'm geared up! Harry

Good for you. May your dreams come true and you’ll finally get a 1000 MP camera that can cook and clean 😂

Only Bill_ de made sense in this post. If you presently shoot Nikon, you might consider the ergonomics as a contributing factor in what you buy next. My conclusion in photography and golf, ‘people position themselves way ahead of their capability’. Average golfers tee off from the furthest tee, delaying the game for all; average photographers boast about their newest equipment but haven’t got the knowledge and skills commensurate to the gear.
I shoot with a Nikon. Z6. I don’t care that Sony and Canon have multiple mirrorless options. I don’t know what I don’t know. What I do know is that the 6 is a technological marvel. I’d be surprised if I use more than 5% of its capabilities and I am an experienced photographer. I love the 6 and the bew Z lenses. This system medts my needs; but I gave learned to be humble in this life. Hubris burns you every time!

Why does a question about a potentially better piece of equipment invite the label of being ‘hubris’?? Not everyone falls into a GAS trap without thinking through carefully what their priorities and needs are. I’m not about to jump into an expensive swap. The purpose of my question was to invite comments - including yours - so that I could understand the landscape and make an informed decision.

Quit frankly, it is the focus system along with the buffer of the 30FPS for sports & wildlife that would warrant a want/need for a camera like this. Watch a vid af the viewfinder recording of the focus tracking.

Sony cameras are great, Nikon mirrorless cameras do some things better than Sony, Canon cameras do some things better than nikon or Sony.
at this point in time you just cant have it all with one camera . Go to sony , then when a new GOAT Nikon comes out you'll be sorry. Stick with Nikon and when a goat canon comes out you'll be sorry , it is a no win situation.

Unless you are a professional or shoot something that will make your photography easy to shoot, then you probably shouldn't put it on the must have list but the maybe list. I have an old Canon 77D which I still use for macro along with my EOS R. I talked myself out of the EOS R5 and R6 because I don't need that kind of power. Having the 30mp sensor on my EOS R is all I need. I prioritized lenses instead but even then I have a combination of Canon and Tamron lenses. Since I have some disabilities now that keep me from things I used to do, I am trying genre that doesn't require a lot of time on my feet. There is a lot of pressure to get new gear but I find that there is little I need. Now that Canon has announced a 30 mp, stacked back-lit sensor for th R3, it will probably become the current flagship for stills for Canon shooters. I expect to see these in the hands of professionals at the Tokoyo Olympics. Then the R1 is next. I am not sure what that will have over the R3 except for adding great 8k.
